• Revamping or Starting from Scratch

Weplay's VP of Engineering, Luke Melia happens to be an avid volleyball fan.  A life-long supporter of the game, he even advocated for a men's volleyball team during his junior high and high school years.  He continues to play regularly and often invites the Weplay team to join him or just learn more about the game.

In fact just this morning Luke passed along an article concerning a new youth volleyball league in Louisville, Kentucky.  Basketball and football participation in the area far out number those playing volleyball.  In an effort to change this, President of the Kentucky Volleyball Academy, Kathy Elswick, took on the head-coaching role for the girls volleyball program at Bullitt High School.

The Bullitt women's volleyball team is participating in the first year of the Kentucky Volleyball Academy program schedule, in hopes that enthusiasm and interest will return to the sport.  Coach Elswick's main hope is that her participants gain a greater knowledge of the game and improve their skill set.

I think Coach Elswick's goal is a great one.  The memories, passion and lessons learned while playing youth sports can last a lifetime, just take Luke for example.

Are there any coaches or organizers in your area working to revamp a sports program? Or, is there a sport that is not offered in your area, but you wish it was?  If you've helped rebuild or start a new program, what are your suggestions for others who want to help promote a sport in their community?

  • :) I love VOLLEYBALL!!

What do I like about Volleyball?

I like a lot about Volleyball. Volleyball is a team sport. That means we all work together- if one person in the back row doesn't receive the ball correctly (and passes it to the setter,) then the point is lost. What I like about this is it teaches you to depend on other people, and to accept and work with- or even become friends with- people you don't like.

What is my past experience with volleyball?

I have been to several camps and I played JV @ ALS middle school. Right now I am on the CHAVC (chapel hill area volleyball) 13s travel volleyball team. I am really looking forward to meeting new girls and new friends and having a blast on this new team!

Why did I try out for volleyball/become interested in this sport?

I tried out for volleyball because I didn't have anything to do after school. But now it's more than just something to do after school- because I absolutely love it and plan to do it through high school and college.

My daughter is 13 years old and enjoys playing volleyball. I would like to get information about the Cincy Classics 13 Black group.

    When does the season start?

How and when do the girls try out?

    Do the girls travel?

What is the cost of joining the program?

    Thanks,

    Cindy Miller

  • 1st Practice

Posted about 1 month ago by Carla Flipse

Our first practice will be Tuesday, November 10th at Mill Creek Middle School.  We will begin at 7:30 (drop off a little early, if possible, as we will do some stretching/warm-up before we begin drills).

    Practice essentials

    • Volley-lite volleyball (name on it, please)
    • Knee-pads
    • Tennis-shoes (non marking if you have them)
    • Long-sleeve shirt (optional...will take the sting of bumping the ball away at least until they get used to the feeling).  Note, our jerseys/team shirts will likely be short-sleeve
    • Long hair up or back (as beautiful as if can be, it gets in the way during practices and games).  :)
    • Water bottle

      Questions or comments?

    Thanks!

  • October 15 Game vs JLS

Posted about 1 month ago by Susi Feltchh
Just wanted to post a note to express how proud I was yesterday of the girls who won amist challanges of trying a new rotation system, JLS parents, and the referee.  For the parents that were not there our team rose above and won with class yesterday!!  My hat is off to you parents that are raising great young ladies and to the girls themselves that stayed focused and showed the utmost  sportmanship and fortitude in a situation that could have ended up very diffently.

    Thank you,

    Coach Susi

  • Teaching volleyball to very young players

Posted about 1 month ago by Jim "Coach C" Crossett
For those who have the fortune of teaching volleyball at the earliest stages, some folks in Netherlands have really thought it through:

    http://www.volleybalnederland.nl/

Some major clubs in the USA are starting to look into this as growth of our sport will be directly correlated to the number of youth who learn it at an earlier age.
