try the shuffle pass drill..
coach stands right front next to net. 1 player at target
players start at 10 ft line, facing net, ready postion, platform out (have them start at the 10 ft line, and have them form a line towards the end line) (make sure they shuffle and not side step. if foot work is not correct, start over.
Coach slaps the ball and players start to shuffle towards the center of the court. Once they get the hang of it coach can stop slapping ball.
Coach tosses ball 2-3 ft from where the player started. toss ball as soon as possible. this will get force the player to move his/her feet)
player passes the ball to the target, then becomes the target.  Target gives ball to coach (have the target start with a ball. this will make drill go faster)
Go through 3-5 times.  Then start over having player start at 20 ft line and repeat
Go through 3-5 times. Then start at same place, but make players move foward.
Go through 3-5 times.  Then start same place and move torwards the target.
Go through 3-5 times.

Have them call the ball every time they make contact too.

Then repeat on other side of the court, opposite movement.

Hi Jen, I am also a middle school girls coach, here are two of my kids' favorites, very simple and very effective:

2 player fight:
Players stand on back line 4-5 ft apart coach tosses ball about 10ft in front of and in between the players. Player that gets the ball plays against next player, loser takes laps.

The pit:
This creates reaction time to quick spikes, and my kids love it. I place a player in a confined area of about a 10 foot circle. Top of a key or center logo on most basketball courts works rather well. The rest of the team spreads out around the area, mostly behind the coach. Coach stands about 15-20 feet in front of player in the pit with a ball cart full of balls. Start throwing them at the player with sharp downward motion to land within the 10 foot area. At first start slow and close, then start moving them away from the player and start throwing them faster. Teammates shag the balls back to the cart. about 1min or 20-25 tosses per player. By the end I am throwing them from one side of the 10 foot area to the other and throwing the next one as soon as they make contact with the last one. They all love it and it gets them reved up.

I am a former college vb coach and former Div. I player.  Try these two drills with movement.
1. Have them move forward to pass a ball, then back pedal 5 steps, touch the ground and then come forward to pass another ball, do this ten times.
2. Also have them pass a ball off your toss, slide to the left 3 times and pass a ball off your toss, then slide back to the middle.. touch the floor and pass a ball off your toss, then slide to the right 3 times and pass a ball off your toss, return to the middle and touch, repeat.
Make sure they have the proper grip to use when forearm passing this is key first.  Work on good footwork to the ball and passing with the right foot forward.

this dirll helps with passing controll and hustle.
have all your  players line up one behind the other at one corner of the servise line.
place your setter in the setter's box.
toss the ball high into the air but to the opposite side of the court.
this will help them with gaining control in a crucial situations.
your players should be able to run, get nuder the ball and pass it to thier target no matter where they are on the court.

my coach stands on one side of the net and throws balls over while we run from either back corner and we have to get it to the setters place and if we have two over or bad passes we have to run a lap. we get to twenty and we are safe from punishment =]
