i love soccer
This is a great drill that I have been teaching for years. The use of the arms/forearms is questionable and may or may not be called as a penalty depending on the official. It is hoewever, completely legal as long as you are not pushing off.
Actually, using your forearms at the hips or waste is perfectly legal AND the proper way to shield the ball, as long the player isn't actually *pushing* the other player away. You can also use your entire body ie. turning away and using your backside.
The shielding part is right, but a coach should NEVER teach his players to use their hands and arms to push and shield. Using your hand/arms to distance or shield is illegal. Just because you might get away with it doesn't make it right!
Going to the game?
Thanks!
Nice, Thanks for your insightful example of how to properly shield the ball
