San Mateo Gymnasts Do it Again! Way to Go!

2009Northern California Zone 7 Gymnastics Championships
Levels 5 & 6
The San Mateo Gymnastics (SMG) compulsory girls' teams had strong performances this past weekend at the Zone Championships. These semi-finals include all ten competitive gymnastics clubs from San Francisco to Santa Clara. Every one of the 5 & 6 SMG compulsory girls' team members who competed in the Zones Championships have qualified and are now preparing for the Northern California State Championships, to be held over the next two weekends - level 6 in Lemoore and level 5 in Livermore.
Meet highlights include:
Level 5
Child A group: Kaitlyn Gates performed well in the AA.
Child B group: Kana Suzuki: 3rd B (9.4); 9.375 BB; 36.55 AA; Elise Haugerud: 9.4 BB, 35.975 AA
Junior A group: Kate Exley: 1st B (9.575), 9.45 BB, 3rd AA (36.4); Hannah Brandon: 3rd B (9.325)
Junior B group: Cassandra Tai: 2nd V, 2nd B (9.250), 9.4 BB, 3rd AA (36.55).
Senior A group: Camryn Choye: 2nd BB (9.475), 3rd AA (36.15)
Senior B group: Astrid Anker: 2nd B (9.05), 2nd BB (9.375), 1st AA (35.875); Gabby Peek: 3rd BB (9.225)
Level 6
Child B group: Liana Montecino performed well in the AA.
Junior A group: Allison Flores: 1st FX (9.35), 3rd AA (35.80); Mia Diliberto: 3rd V (9.05), 35.7 AA.
Junior B group: Helene Haugerud and Madigan Griffin performed well in the AA.
Senior A group: Claire Saitta: 3rd V, 1st B (9.25), 3rd FX, 3rd AA (35.7)

Teddy Bear Classic, Hosted by San Mateo Gymnastics
The San Mateo Gymnastics compulsory girls team (levels 4-6) competed well this past weekend in their home meet, the Teddy Bear Classic. Strong performances by the girls earned the level 4 team as well as the level 6 team the first place team title, while the level 5 team captured the second place team award.
In the level 4 middle age division, Hannah Kodama had strong performances on all four events, winning the all-around title. She claimed the gold on vault (9.475), bars (9.55), and beam (9.2), and the silver on floor (9.3). Elizabeth Boman tied with Kodama for first on bars (9.55), and took third on vault (9.125) and floor (9.275) to claim second place in the all-around. Sophie Richards also performed well in the all-around in this age division.
In the level 4 older age division, Grace Robinson captured the gold on vault (tie, 9.475) and floor (9.375), and the silver on bars (9.525) and beam (9.475), en route to gold in the all-around. Julianna Small won the title on bars, posting the highest score in the entire competition (9.7). She also won first place on beam (9.55) and took third on vault (9.325) to claim second place in the all-around. Julia Maimone took third place on bars (9.45) and second place on floor (9.225), while teammate Ruby Robinson tied with her sister, Grace, for the gold on vault (9.475). Madison Hubbell, Alison Lazaruk, Julia Talgo and Erika Kodama also competed well in the all-around in this age division.
In the level 5 younger group, Elise Haugerud and Kaitlyn Gates both performed well in the all-around, with strong performances by both girls on bars (9.375 for Haugerud; 9.025 for Gates).
In the level 5 middle group, Kate Exley shined on bars for the gold (9.5), taking second place in the all-around. Hannah Brandon took third on vault (9.075) and second on bars (9.3), while teammate Kana Suzuki claimed third place on bars (9.175).
In the level 5 older group, Camryn Choye captured the gold in the all-around, taking second on bars (9.35), and first on beam (9.375) and floor (9.225). Cassandra Tai performed a beautiful vault for first place on this event (9.225), took third on bars (9.075) and beam (9.15) and earned second place in the all-around. Astrid Anker won the bars title (9.375) and took third place on floor (9.0), to finish in third place in the all-around. Gabby Peek also competed well in the all-around in this age division.
In the level 6 younger division, Liana Montecino shined on floor for the gold (9.2) on this event.
In the level 6 middle division, Mia Diliberto captured first on beam (9.1) and second on vault (9.25), bars (9.05) and floor (9.2), en route to winning the gold in the all-around. Allison Flores finished second in the all-around, including a first-place performance on floor (9.475) and third place on bars and beam.
In the level 6 older division, Claire Saitta landed the highest scoring vault in the competition for the gold (9.525) on that event, and also took first on bars (9.1) and floor (9.175) and second place on beam (9.075), to capture first place in the all-around. Madigan Griffin took second place on floor (9.05). Helene Haugerud also competed well in the all-around in this age division.
