    Wilkinson, Scalley TDs
     sink Madison, 32-7

DOVER - George Scalley scored Dover's first two touchdowns of the game and Luciano Wilkinson scored the final three as the Tigers defeated Madison, 32-7, in a Morris County Youth Football League (MCYFL) varsity game at Hamilton Field here on Saturday, Nov. 7.
The win gave Dover a final regular-season record of 8-1 and a second-place finish in the National Conference's Hills Division of the MCYFL, one game behind division champ and unbeaten Jefferson.
Dover's only loss of the season was a 24-18 defeat at the hands of Jefferson in Week 8.
Madison (4-5) stunned the Tigers by scoring on its first possession, moving the ball 95 yards on eight plays and scoring on a 9-yard run and adding a conversion pass for a 7-0 lead.
Madison tried an onsides kick but Dover's James Quiles covered it for the Tigers and, on the first play from scrimmage, Scalley went 57 yards for a TD and Wilkinson ran for the extra point to tie the score at 7-7.
Dover forced Madison to punt on its next series and Scalley scored his second TD on a 55-yard punt return. Rondal Arnold's PAT run gave Dover a 14-7 lead, a lead that was never threatened.
The second quarter was all Wilkinson as he ran 76 yards for his first touchdown on a first-and-15 play after the Dover defense halted a Madison drive at the Tiger 29-yard line.
Wilkinson scored his second TD of the quarter on another first-down run, this one from 40 yards out on the last play of the half. Madison had reached midfield, but the Tigers' Derium Guirdy had a tackle for a loss and Joe Valdebenito had a fourth-down sack to put the ball back in Dover's hands.
Wilkinson scored Dover's final TD when he returned Madison's second-half kickoff 63 yards, making the score 32-7 and bringing out Dover's reserves for the rest of the game to preserve the victory.
The Tigers gained 332 yards on offense with Wilkinson rushing only twice for 116 yards and and Scalley once for 57 yards. Christian Coretes, Anthony Rivera, Jason Pinales and James Quiles added a combined for the rest of the Tigers' yardage.
On defense, Wilkinson had eight tackles (one for a loss) and intercepted a pass from his spot at linebacker. Scalley had four tackles, including one for a loss.
Guirdy finished with four tackles with three of them for losses; Valdebenito had four tackles, one a sack; Lewis Rodriguez, Arnold and Rivera each had three tackles with Rivera getting one for a loss; Daniel Leana had a tackle and a sack; and Anthony Sterling, Wilson Guapache and Pinales each finished with one tackle.

Tigers bow to Jefferson for first loss of season

DOVER - A 24-point second-quarter outburst by Jefferson was too much for Dover to overcome as the Tigers lost their first Morris County Youth Football League (MCYFL) game of the season, a 24-18 decision to the Falcons in a game played at Jefferson on Saturday, Nov. 1.
After a scoreless first period, Jefferson (8-0) struck for two quick TDs - a 6-yard run after a long drive and the second a 40-yard run with a recovered fumble. Both two-point PAT kicks were good and the Falcons had a 16-0 lead.
The Tigers (7-1) cut into the lead when George Scalley scored on a 2-yard run to cap a 55-yard drive in only three plays - all runs by Scalley.
Jefferson closed out the second quarter onslaught with a 48-yard scoring pass and converted yet another two-point PAT to take a 24-6 lead into the halftime break.
The third period was also scoreless and Dover scored twice in the fourth period and had possession late in the game before running out of downs.
Scalley scored his second touchdown of the game, capping a five-play, 43-yard drive with a 4-yard TD run.
On the kickoff following Scalley?s TD, Dover?s Derium Guirdys recovered an onsides kick on the Jefferson 47-yard line and the Tigers needed but four plays to score with quarterback Rondal Arnold sneaking in from the 1-yard line.
Dover then held Jefferson to a three-and-out to regain possession with two minutes to play. The Tigers - with no timeouts left -  couldn?t move the chains this time, however, and they ran out of downs as their comeback bid fell short.
Scalley finished with 147 yards on 14 rushes and Luciano Wilkinson rushed three times for 42 yards as Dover finished with 212 offensive yards on 27 plays. The defense allowed Jefferson only 120 yards on 25 plays.
Guirdys had a team-high five tackles and one sack to go with his onsides kick recovery.
Wilkinson and Scalley each had four tackles with two for losses from their linebacker spots; Zack Zuzock and Arnold each had two solo tackles; and Anthony Rivera, Christian Cortes, Jason Pinales, Lewis Rodriguez and Joel Valdebenito each finished with one tackle.

    Unbeaten Dover stops Hopatcong, 14-0
        DOVER
    - George Scalley's two touchdown runs and Luciano Wilkinson's two one-point conversion runs were the only points in the game as the unbeaten Dover Tigers beat the Hopatcong Warriors, 14-0, in a Morris County Youth Football League (MCYFL) game played at Hamilton Field on Sunday, Oct. 25, night.
The victory was Dover's seventh of  the season and sets up a battle for first place with equally unbeaten (7-0) Jefferson at Jefferson on Sunday, Nov. 1. The winner will move into first place in the Morris Division of the American Conference with the losing team a game back with one more week to go in the regular season.
In Sunday's game, Dover took the opening kickoff and moved downfield only to throw an interception on a fourth-and-11, giving Hopatcong the ball on its own 12-yard line. Hopatcong got two first downs before punting, giving back the ball to the Tigers on their own 29-yard line.
On the first play on the new set of downs, Scalley ran 71 yards for his first touchdown and Wilkinson ran for the PAT and a Dover 7-0 lead.
Hopatcong took the ensuing kickoff and gave the ball back to Dover when it failed to convert on a fourth-and-2 on the Hopatcong 45-yard line.
This time, it took the Tigers four plays to hit pay dirt, with Scalley notching his second TD of the game on a 4-yard run and Wilkinson again converting for the final point of the game.
Neither side threatened in the second half as the combination of solid defenses and a slippery turf kept both teams away from the endzone.
Scalley finished with 98 yards on six rushes while Wilkinson added 94 yards on 11 rushes. Dover's offense gained 193 yards overall in 28 plays.
The Tiger defense allowed but 83 yards on 35 plays.
Scalley led all tacklers with seven from his spot at linebacker; Rondal Arnold and Joel Valdebenito each had three tackles; Jason Pinales, Daniel Leana and Anthony Sterling each finished with two; and Deriam Guridy and Christian Cortes each had one.

  • Adults and politics who ruin sports for kids

Posted about 19 hours ago by Tammy Leavitt
I have searched everywhere, and came up empty.  In my small town of Fortuna, CA, there is little for kids to do.  When a sports program becomes available, we all jump to sign our kids up, because it keeps them from being bored, which leads to getting in trouble.  We pay all of the fees, buy all the equipment, get the physicals, sign all the papers, then wait anxiously for that moment when we can watch our child play.
I got to watch two games before my son was kicked off the team.
He's 10.  He's never played on a team before.  He got frustrated as a running back who has blockers who don't block, and was getting plowed every time.  This is typical, I think.  He slammed the ball down in the fourth quarter at the second game, and was suspended by the coach for a week of practice and the next game.
No, I thought,. the Code of Conduct says a violation may result in removal from all or part of the next game, it says nothing about suspension, or not being allowed at practice or the game for any length of time.  But I went along because he's the coach, and maybe my son can learn from this, we'll see.
The next day, Coach called me and said there had been a board meeting last night, the board voted and over-ruled the week suspension.  Good, I thought, it seemed pretty extreme to me too.  They decided he can't come back at all.
    HUH?
But you can appeal their decision TO THEM at the next board meeting (which just so happens to be a week before the season is over), but by then he will have missed so much practice, he'll be too far behind the rest of the team to catch up.
There is nothing else I can do?  Make him apologize, clean up the field, ANYTHING?
No, sorry, attend the board meeting and that's it.
At the board meeting I was told that this is my fault.  If I had taught my son better, none of this would have happened.  I explained that this was a huge part of my intention to teach my son better, having him involved in sports, having male role models in his life, which he has had none since his father died 5 years ago, having him around kids that were not trying to get him in trouble all of the time, having him learn team work, and sportsmanship, all of the things it was supposed to be about.
They said they are not here to fix kids, they are here to play football, and if I fix him, they may let him try again next year.
No rules anywhere, that I've found, say that they can not do this, as despicable, immoral, and unethical as it may be, they are within their rights to vote kids out of the program as they please.  If a kid is better at a position than a board members kid, his first mistake may be his last.
Kids damaged, money wasted, hearts broken, for what?  What was to gain by this action?  My son could not learn anything useful from this, because he was not there.  He did learn that the coach lied, and that he is disposable, and got thrown out like trash.

  • Peyton's Picks - Week 10

Posted 3 days ago by Peyton Manning
I hope our Sunday night game vs the Patriots was a reminder to all of you that you should never give up on yourselves or the win.  I can't lie to you, I certainly got a little nervous, because nothing surprises me with New England.  But Reggie Wayne kept fighting through those last 20 seconds and made a great, extended catch.  We weathered the storm and it sure feels good to come out on top.

The last two teams to land on top of my nomination list for $500 scholarships or personal visit by me are:

The Brockton Junior Boxers from Brocton, MA.  This team has done an excellent job both on the field and online with their Weplay group page.  They've got 1051 videos and photos in their gallery...that takes some effort!  They're also linked up to all the teams in their organization, which there are a lot of.

What I most enjoyed about this group was the full roster with minimal benchwarmers as well as their message posts.  There's so much positive energy coming out of this group.

Now the last Peyton's Picks of this season is well suited.  They are the Northlake Pop Warner Patriots from Hammond, Indiana.  This is a 15U football and cheerleading league group that has had a very successful season. The football players known as the "Tough Sixteen" have a great shot in their gallery with what looks to be the championship trophy.  Members are also posting their comments on the nearly 100 photos in their gallery.  I want to see more of that from other groups.

Congratulations to both of my picks today and to all the Pop Warner teams and squads on Weplay.  I hope you all take the time to connect and learn from each other.

Stay tuned, as I'll be posting my five $500 scholarship winners as well as the grand prize Peyton's Pick winner in the coming weeks.

    Dear Parents,
There is a football camp being held in june. You can find the details at
www.o-d.com. This is a camp that was reccomended by coach bryant. I am going to be putting Johnathon in this camp. It is a week long and is A great learning opportunity for the children. It is a bit pricey but they do payment polans. You can put a One hundred (100) dollar deposit and pay on it each month. The kids will stay Monday threw Friday and have at least 6 hours of football instruction per a day. They eill also get the opportunity to meet NFL football players. Johnathon wants to make his career out of football so I think that if your child feels the same way it is a great opportunity to further or improve their career. It woill help the kids in hitting due to it being a full contact camp. Please look at the website cause it too is a great opportunity for your child.

  • Yesterdays Banquet

Posted 5 days ago by Jay Coombs
Yesterday was this seasons team banquet. Everytrhing went great. Coach Mark addressed all the kids andparents about how proud he was of them for a great season and then handed out the trophies and the kids seemed to be very proud of their achievments. Now is the time to get ready for next season. The 2010 season will be here before we know it and we will have to generate more funding to make sure our boys get everything they need and deserve. Without the help of all the parents, coaches and players invovled we would not be able to do what we do. Everyone who has a child in the South Portland Football program should step up and get involved with the boosters to see what they can do and help with. This is my second season as a coach with SPYFL and I see myself being here for a very long time. Together we are one, together WE ARE ....... SP!

  • Are you a Paraskevidekatriaphobe?

Posted 7 days ago by Candice Coots
What does paraskevidekatriaphobia mean you ask? (can you even pronounce this?) If you're superstitious and are paralyzed by fear on dates that fall on unlucky number 13, then you're one!

I personally am glad college footage games are mostly played on Saturdays. I'm a devoted University of Oregon football fan and after my Ducks fell on their beaks to Stanford (yes, Stanford!) last Saturday, we can use all the good luck possible tomorrow, the 14th, verses Arizona State.

I wouldn't say I'm a Paraskevidekatriaphobe, but I'm pretty darn committed to my sports team.  Any force that tries to bring them down, like Friday the 13th, is unwelcome in my books.

I know many of you Weplayer's have games on Fridays.   Are you worried about getting the win on Friday the 13th?  Better yet, do you have any stories from past sporting events played on Friday the 13th?

    Share 'em with us.
