Back Handspring

By: Flash Mavi about 4 years ago

The back handspring is one of the most common tumbling elements required throughout cheer competitions. Before attempting it, be sure you've mastered a handstand and back roll to handstand. Back and wrist flexibility are also necessary. Try working on bridge flexibility to help improve your positioning.

    • July 21, 2009

i would not do it like that i would do it like get a down hill mat and put your head at the bottom of it and put your feet at the top and then go up in a backbend and then to a hand stand and then leard to kick over and it streachs your back and it helps

    • July 20, 2009

    • May 18, 2009

why does he make it look so easy

    • May 12, 2009

This is the way i learned

    • May 10, 2009

this is the way that i learned but i am a gymnast & i have experience... DO NOT ATTEMPT UNLESS YOU HAVE AN EXPIRENCED TRAINER WITH YOU!!!

    • May 08, 2009

Okay this Isn't bad. I think I might try this with my trainer and maybe I'll get it right!

    • May 08, 2009

the video is good but just showing it nobody will ry and do it by theirself cuz they mite be scared

    • May 05, 2009

These are all really cute videos... but anyone watching them who has never attempted gymnastics obviously will not understand.

    • May 02, 2009

Overall this is a good description of how to do a back handspring but there is some obvious mistakes in explanation of technique as I listed bellow.

When learning a BHS make sure you have a qualified gymnastics instructor and a safe environment!!!

    • May 02, 2009

If you are doing multiple back handsprings you land on your toes not heels and you body should be heading back not vertical.

    • May 02, 2009

You should jump from the balls of your feet not from your heel. To tumble on your toes not your heels.

When do you bend your hands in a back handspring? Hmm odd phrasing.

You can never jump to much. There can be a lack of control or direction.
