The defensive basketball zone play is for youth basketball teams at the more intermediate and advanced levels. The zone defense is set up to deny the best player on the offense by assigning one defender to follow him while the rest of the defense stays in a zone defending the rest of the offense. The best individual defender should be assigned to the one offensive player depending on the position. This defense is usually setup when the offense has a dominant guard player.
