The Mikan Drill

This youth basketball drill improves many skills around the basketball hoop. It is called the Mikan Drill, named after George Mikan of the Minneapolis Lakers, and this short range shooting drill is especially useful for taller players who want to improve their dexterity for layups and hooks close to the basket. Make sure players turn shoulders in, work on their footwork, and keep the basketball up, without bringing it any lower than where it is caught.

I used to do this drill all the time and still think it is very valuable. One comment here is that coaches should encourage their kids to go for 10 makes because it encourages that the player will concentrate on their fundamentals instead of waiting for the clock to hit 30 seconds!
I will use this for the big man.
i like this drill and i am also really tall and this may help me alot
good old school drill for the new school kids
I feel like a million bucks!
great drill
I'm ready to rock!
just askin, wat does this drill help out besides foot work?
Awesome!
I did this drill as a kid. It REALLY helped me out. I teach my kids the same drill.
this drill is godd
Love this drill, use it in every practice for 2 sets of 1 minute, with my 4-6 winter ball teams and at least once with my spring AAU teams! The boys hate it for the tiredness that comes with it, but it only makes them better on the rebound n put back!!!
One of my all time favorite drills. It helps build confidence and dexterity through repetition. I learned how use my off hand around the basket by starting all my high school practices with the Mikan.
My coach showed us this at practice
Simply the best warmup drill to start with. Build on this for layups, stretches out the arms and then spread it out for simple jump shots off the posts. Must have drill.
