little league dying out? slect ball taking over? 5 replies

Are the litlle leagues really that good on tv? i dont think so. Have them play 12 year major team and real baseball rules and you will see if they are that good.

I AGREE WITHYOU. IHAVE A 10U SON WHO PLAYS SELECT USSSA ON APITCH 50FT AND 70FT BASES COMPARED TO THE LITTLE LEAGUE WHICH IS MUCH SMALLER. ALSO WHAT I CAN"t STAND IN THE LLWS ARE THE ANNOUNCERS WHO TELL YOU THAT A 60 MPH FASTBALL IS THE SAME AS A 90 MPH IN THE MAJORS 60 IS 60

I agree. However, I just left the 12yo national championship, and the AAU champion won. I was surprised. I'm not sure how much USSSA they play however. I was not really all that impressed. Their coach was Chet Lemon however... and that IS impressive.

The team they beat was a Babe Ruth team from Lexington KY, and I honestly think my AA USSSA team could have played them a good game.

I think this NYBA (or whatever it is) will eventually overcome LL baseball on a US interest basis. However, LL is international, so the romance will stay with that for a long time. The best baseball, however, is played in weekend tournaments across the country.

You can see more about the "national championship" at www.gamedaybaseball.com. It was broadcasted live on the internet...

I liked to watch them play, they all were on equal footing, made for some good games. I think it's a whole lot like girls softball, that's what it resembles the most to me.
My boy who is 10plays TTAB and USSSA in the 12U groups. The brand of baseball that they showon TV couldn't hold a candle to those leagues, pitching at 47.6 and 70' bases. The announcers did say thatFlorida and Georgia probablyplayed each otherin the fall, I'd guess the kids do play another league besides LL if that is true. They're good little athletes, but you can't compare LL to the other leagues.

I watched the LL and looks likes all the players are hand picked just as the USSSA teams (travel teams as we call them). If you want to see heart warming baseball watch Dixie Youth Baseball (DYB). Girls and boys play together althought there are not that many girls, none are ever turned away. Every child that comes out gets to play regardless of the talent. At the end of the season, yes we pick the more experienced players for out allstar teams. Its all about having FUN.

these kids are better than the kids on the select teams. i was just at the llws and some kids looked just like major leaguers and could throw the ball faster than anyone i know.
