The most important job of a catcher is to keep the ball in front of him at all times. This video gives youth baseball players the proper technique for blocking balls thrown low in the dirt or outside.

Dropping your outside leg forces your hips out of square. The footwork is just backward. Drop to outside knee, push off inside foot. Throw your hips to stay square.

I used to play catcher until I was injured playing catcher on my 2nd year. Now I am jusin a fielder.
i play catcher and i did not know how to play my first year
Another thing that, I, as a catcher, was never taught. I was put at catcher for Varsity level as a Sophomore, and was expected to know those types of things.
