The Importance of the "First 3 Feet" in a Pitcher's Delivery

In this video, pro coach/player Pat Ahearne shows us the importance of the first stages of a pitcher's delivery. According to Pat, a great deal of power, velocity, and command are generated from proper mechanics and torque during the first three feet of motion towards the plate. If you master your mechanics during the first three feet, you'll be able to maximize your pitching potential.

Pat. Great to see other coaches making the point on driving the hips towards the plate rather then the balancing act that many do. To support your video for other viewers I recently wipped out the radar gun on my High School athletes to show them the 5-10 mph increase when driving the hips compared to balancing and holding things back.
Nice video i never thought about the hips
Good job Pat. In all sport actions, meaning kicking a ball, throwing a ball, swinging a golf club is based on a simple formula, transferring load from ;point A to point B. All coaching is teaching the mechanics of doing it in a efficient manner, as Pat was doing in this clip.
Good advice.
Thanks Coach,
good thanks
Yes. It's very important to do it that way. Thanks
Sounds good, I'm going to have to give it a try.
Great Tip. Thanks
