Mental work is always a good idea, especially in the "thinking mans" game, but you can improve your baseball tactics (strategic thinking) by playing a game. It can be a video game based on MLB baseball, or college baseball, or little league. Playing the game, and seeing the situations, will get you thinking about the flow, the rules and some of these games even have excellent advice from people like Harold Renolds.
I also recommend watching Ken Burns PBS special on baseball. Pick a decade and watch. You'd be surprised what you can learn. Bunting was a critical part of why Ty Cobb has the highest life time batting average in history.
Finally, if you get together with some friends there are a number of indoor drills that can be done in a confined space to help build hand eye coordination.
