Miracle Day on the Basketball Courts

Sunday I played one of the best series of basketball games of my life and I am still riding high Monday morning. I play with a group of hard nosed players who play solid basketball with picks, screens, cutting, and good overall fundamentals. They are a joy to play with.

But this was the Sunday after launch, which meant I was sleep deprived, and I drew 3 of the smallest players among the 14 of us. We run full court 4 on 4. So that meant I had to be more aggressive and really look for scoring opportunities.

On the defensive end, I always covered their biggest guys, got banged up in the post, and we worked together as a team. Guards would collapse on the post when needed, and I have never seen guards box out and rebound like this.

On the offensive end, sometimes you just feel it. I was hitting threes, posting up bigger guys with fade-away jumpers, and cutting hard through the lane off picks for mid size jumpers and lay-ups.

Sometimes no matter how hard you try, your game is just off. And sometimes, you have one of those days. In fishing, my father called it a miracle day. A day when you caught over a hundred instead of ten. I had a miracle day on the court, and it's moments like that you have to cherish and hold on too. They may be few and far between.
