          Richard’s Bio
          About Richard
          Hometown – SOUTHGATE, MI
About me – I'm 39 years old, married (Amy) with one child (Mathew), and one on the way (May 30th). I have been on the ice since I was 3 years old. I enjoy coaching. It gives me an opportunity to shape and develop youngsters into a quality person. I feel it is important as a coach to teach these young men/women how to act on and off the ice, teaching them life lessons that will carry with them for a lifetime. My #1 goal as a coach is to make sure that every player leaves the rink with a smile on there face. Having fun is the building block for achieving all other attributes that a player needs to learn. Coaches, parents, and teammates need to be 100% positively positive. It is extremely important to show players the proper techniques when developing skills. This is done by practicing these techniques repeatedly. If ignored, players will not go beyond the Midget level. Coaches at the Jr. Level do not care how many goals you scored in peewees, or what level of hockey you played at age 14. Coaches at the Jr. Level and higher don't need that information, because they know hockey and a player's performance on the ice is all they need to decide a player's future. Sometimes it is very easy to stray from this concept, because the current amateur hockey world demands too much on winning. Winning gives the perception that a player must be getting better, and that is false. Winning hockey games while playing with 100% effort and doing the proper techniques is my goal as a coach. Example: We may or may not win the game if I tell players to chip the puck off the glass and out of our zone instead of passing the puck stick to stick, but an individual's skill level will suffer as a result of our win. Win or not-win, my focus is on proper skill execution performed in a game and a practice. If kids have fun and work hard doing the proper techniques taught by the coach. They should have a long exciting hockey carreer.
