I would personally recommend checking out springs sports, it will give him an opportunity to practice, condition and see if he really likes the sport before your family commits to his involvement in the sport.

To add to Shannon's great answer, practice quickness. Strengthen your legs so if you jump or dive at a ball, your more powerful legs will help in getting you there that much faster.
