    Kristy Lowe asked:

wut is the best way to deal with a coach you don't like

    Coach’s answer:

Not sure if you are talking REC, Comp or school ball. The latter 2 you usually have to try out and both sides (coaches & players) have an opportunity to determine if they are good fits However, in REC leagues, many players are drafted blindly and no ... Continue reading »

    Keith Bailey asked:

What is a good way to motiveate a team of 12 year old girls to play?

    Coach’s answer:

It's tougher than it looks huh? LOL

Obviously each group of girls will have certain individual needs; however, in general I've noticed that with girls you have to make it fun for them. This is much different than coaching boys who dream of playing a... Continue reading »

    Softball chic Arizona asked:

Who should cover the steal at 2nd base, shortstop or outfielder? My daughter's coach has the outfielder taking all throws to 2nd.

    Coach’s answer:

I have never seen a CF take the throw down. On our team, I train the girls to have SS taking the throw down with 2 nearby and as a backup, and CF carefully watching and backing up behind them in-case there is a miss.

    Sarah Kovall asked:

How do you deal with a coach that will play his own daughter in a position over a girl that has more talent at the same position?

    Coach’s answer:

As evidenced by reading this, there are both extremes. Coaches who are unjust and play their kids over better players. And also parents who THINK their kids are all that when they really aren't and then squeak and bark because the coach don't have shar... Continue reading »

    Alex Smith asked:

supposably my team is not a winning team and that worries me ecspecially when they only have 8 girls on the roster.Stay or go?( i am a jr)

    Coach’s answer:

At the very least you need to have a "heart-to-heart" talk with the coach. Let him know your goals and purposes and make sure he has the same agenda that will help you succeed.

Your team is already facing difficult situations with only 8 girls on... Continue reading »

    Coach’s answer:

Another thought...everyone thinks their kid is an allstar. Its normal, but why not get the opinion of those that aren't family or close friends so you get a true anaylsis? You might be dead on, or it could be the parent side coming out. Better to kno... Continue reading »

    Erlinda Martinez asked:

How do I break a bad habit of girls that repeatedly turn their face and left theif leg when a hard fast ground ball is coming at them??

    Coach’s answer:

One drill I have my girls do that they seem to love is "softball dodgeball". Simply split the team in half. Make one side line up on the base line from 3rd to home (equally spread apart). Have the other half do the same on the base 1st to 2nd base line... Continue reading »

    Coach’s answer:

Sounds like they have been smacked with the ball and hurt. The only way to break the bad habit is to build confidence.

Go back to the basics. Show each one how to PROPERLY field grounders. Then start running the drill with WIFFLE balls. Actually a l... Continue reading »
