1. Join My New Group

So over the holiday week, i had a chance to play with the weplay application. I know as an executive of the company I should be all over it all the time, but well, i wanted to wait until the guys had a chance to get some key elements built. It's really hard for me to use the application when it is incomplete.. (not that anything on the web is ever "complete", but hopefully you understand what i mean}. When building my Catamaran Sailing group, I was struck by a couple of things.. First off the team has done a fantastic job of building a great application. A utility really, for people wanting to create groups or teams. The interesting thing though, is that our application, in many ways allows people to do things they cannot do anywhere else and we really need to do a better job of helping people understand "why" they should use weplay. MARCOM...
Like Pavlov's dogs, consumers have learned to go to a website, consume content and move on. Maybe they come back, maybe they don't, but to a large extent they consume rather than contribute and engage. In the case of social networks, people have been trained to create profiles, display media, engage with other users and possibly groups or use entertaining applications. The thing about weplay that is so unique is the opportunity to do all of those activities in one place. I was really struck by the fact that we need to do a much better job of explaining to our users, new and old, what they can do with the weplay application and the associated benefits. Communication, tutorials, intuitive landing pages... Lots to do, but big upside.

TJ wants to go to lunch so that's all for now

I haven't posted in quite awhile. Been pretty busy doing the weplay thing. Big week at weplay. The team has been working pretty darn hard. LeBron was in town to crush the Knicks, Shaun got cut by the Redskins (don't like Snyder much anyway), new features on the horizon. We are going to be pushing hard to get the weplay word out in coming months so stay tuned. To everyone, have a wonderful and safe holiday. Oh yeah, GO TROJANS!!

  4. big day for softball

yet another busy day here on weplay as we're all riding high thanks to our new relationship with the ASA - aka the amateur softball association. we're proud to work with, and have the support of the premier softball organization in the world - the ASA - and the hundreds of thousands of players, coaches and parents around the country that make softball one of the biggest participation sports in the country.

right about now, we've got some serious momentum going, especially in the softball world. and with those members joining as we build to make weplay the ultimate softball destination on the site.

earlier this week, weplay pro jennie finch launched her search for the best softball team and group pages on weplay. each week, jennie will call out and rewarding the "Finch's Favorites."

    http://www.weplay.com/jennie-finch-youth-softball

we're also set to launch a softball hub, the very first sports hub on weplay, that gives our members a central place to discuss and share all things softball. this is where you'll be able to find jennie's own video tutorials that she made exclusively for us.

in the past week, we've also unleashed our "click-a-pic" photos of the month contest and instant win game (Where you can win a signed jennie finch softball and a boatload of other prizes)...

so to all the new softball-loving members on weplay, welcome aboard. start posting your photos and videos, creating those team pages and meeting other people who love the game as much as you do. onward and upward.

  5. Where We've Been and Where We're Going

it's been a long time since i've written, too long, but that's because we've been super busy... building out a whole slew of new features and functions that lets you customize your groups and profile - better calendar, better blogs, better media uploader, better home page, widgets and even more from our pro athletes. even as we build it, the community is growing. to see hundreds of new profiles springing up on the site daily, to peruse the new team pages and group sites going up and linking to each other, to view the thousands of shared photos and to read the comments back and forth between members... that is weplay in action... that is the vision working.

teams from just about every sport, from rugby to softball to wrestling, are making weplay a fundamental component of their organizational strategy. pop warner, asa anda bunch of national YSOs are on board and helping us reach out to hundreds of thousands of coaches, parents, league organizers and young athletes.

and you couldn't ask for better role models. the fact that derek, peyton manning, lebron james and jennie finch are blogging on weplay... and really blogging, not something their agents or publicists create... is amazing. They're posting tons of old videos and photos here on pretty much a daily basis at this point. lebron and brandi chastain are even putting up videos from their summer camps, which don't exist anywhere else on the web!

yesterday we rolled out the first of several upcoming promotions that will no doubt attract even more members to the site. If you haven't discovered it by now, weplay is offering up a trip to new york for you and your entire family to meet derek jeter. In the last season ever at yankee stadium, you can hang out with the captain before a yankees game and ask him how he always comes up with the clutch hit when his teammates need him most, as he did twice already this week (unless he writes about that in his next blog, in which case you need to find something else to ask him).

but to know what's coming in the next week, the next few weeks and months ahead is what gets me really rolling and getting into the office earlier and earlier every day... take a look at the photo below - thisis the back wall of our office right now, there are seriously hundreds of color-coded index cards taped up there with projects we've got in the pipeline to build a bigger, better and badder weplay experience, things like message boards, enhanced calendar and schedule tools, resource centers for each sport, weplays of the month, member recognition and tutorials from our pro athletes.

so stay tuned because the best is yet to come.

well sports fans, big wednesday in the big apple. interesting day here at weplay. want to crawl out of my skin sometimes...... the site is growing, slowly. intentionally keeping it small right now, waiting for a few more features before we formally open the doors. wake up at 3AM thinking about a better video upload tool, better photo gallery, calendar, biz dev deals.... features! offer letters out to two new developers. building... never thought a guy could have this much fun working 90 hours a week. love this stuff.

back in nyc... tons going on. my son was named captain of his baseball team, all good with the three amigos after a great weekend of football on the beach in so cal. this week is all about b round financing and feature sets. trying to figure out when to push people to the site as we prioritize the million things we are building. i'd say more but never know who is reading. just suffice to say that we are now at XX people and pushing hard to stretch out our lead. like any company there are 100 things on our "to do" list and as CEO they can't all be #1. going to hit the gym so i don't die of a heart attack or weigh 600 pounds anytime soon. balance steveo, balance.
