1. The Best Game Ever

I feel fortunate to have been raised in New York. We lived closed enough to NYC to visit Shea and Yankee stadium during the season over several years. Back then I would have told you that the best game I ever watched was when I saw Lee Mazzilli hit a go ahead home run to win a back & forth game. While growing up, he was by far my favorite ball player. I volunteered to play Center just because he played Center. When that ball sailed over the wall the crowd went wild and back then the Mets didn't pack them in the way they do these days.

After I started playing ball, it was easy to get excited when we won. It isn't hard to figure out that winning is much more funthan losing. Duringthose playing days, I would have to say that playing in and winning an Allstar Playoff game was the best game I ever got the chance to participate in. I felt honored to be on the field and was floating on cloud nine when I made the final out on a grounder from third to first. It was a long throw and a close call that I was happy went our way.

As an adult I have been to numerous professional games across the USA. I have seen some incredible pitching matches and cheered at games where the hits just keep on coming. I've watched some of the greatest to ever play the sport and could easily say that a handful of these games could be the best game some of these athletes ever played.

This Spring my son started playing T-ball, he's six and never fails at making me smile. His team was new to the 6 year old division of our local little league and most of the teams had played together for a couple of seasons. Needless to say they weren't as strong as the other teams but they did come a long way. My son played pitcher most of the games, he is quick and ran up on the ball (like his Mom taught him) instead of watching it roll by like some of his team mates. The very first game of the season they played the Yankees, known to be the best team in T-Ball 6 and my son made an out. He fielded the ball and threw to first to get the runner. I was watching from the fence next to the dugout and yelled just as loud as I did when Mazzilli hit that game winning homer. As a parent it was the BEST GAME I EVER WATCHED!! The look on my son's face when he came running off the field at the end of the inning was one of pure joy. He looked at me and said, "Did you see me Mom? I got the ball and made an out." I was so proud of him but he was in ectasy over his ability to make me happy.

My son's out was a moment I'll never forget but there are several moments that baseball has engraved on my memory, just like it has done for millions of others. That out and the memories I have make BASEBALL the best game ever!
