Next week I am going to do something I never in a million years would have dreamed I would: climb Mt Kilimanjaro. With one of my new best friends, a woman named Jacqui.
I plan to write about it here a little, and with any luck at all post some pictures, too, in the hopes of inspiring any girls who read this to have their own adventures.
We started training for the climb about six months prior to it, focusing on aerobic activity to increase lung capacity and lower body strength. Jacqui rides her bike to work daily, and I climb the stairs in my building or "power walk" almost every day. We've gone on a few hikes in the mountains in upstate New York. And when we're done with Kilimanjaro, we plan to do some more light hiking in the Usambara Mountain range, too.
