Eric Schayes commented on the WeBlog post SKLZ Spring Sports Challenge:
“A great drill we use for my son's t-ball team and my daughters softball team is called the alligator and scarecrow. The player starts in the ready position. A coach throws or hits a ground ball and the player uses an alligator mouth motion with the top hand coming down to push the ball into his/her glove. This teaches 2 things, first is to use 2 hands. second it also keeps the top hand up so if the grounder takes a hop you can stop it with your top hand. Once the player has recieved the ground ball, they hop up and into the scarecrow position (throw position) This method keeps the players interested, especially the younger ones, because they associate the movements to something real.”
