    Jonathan Haynes asked:

What should you do when you're at a position you don't like, but you're great at it?

    Tye’s answer:

My suggestion is this: Play Center to the best of your ability, first of all. But if you have a passion to catch the ball (playing wide receiver or tight end), you can still work on that. Spend time with your quarterback and ask him to throw you passes... Continue reading »

    Tim Benton asked:

    boom

    Tye’s answer:

Football speed is a particular brand of speed that requires slightly different technique than track speed. In football, you should incorporate something called "overspeed" training. Basically, you want some extra force when you run. This can come as re... Continue reading »

    David Smith asked:

How do you know whether backs should be in a three point stance or standing in a running back stance? Does it all depend on formation?

    Tye’s answer:

By rule, the RB can be in any stance. So it is up to the coach. The decision is made regarding the quickness/mobility of the backs and the style of the offense. We run a T-formation with all backs in a 2pt stance. If I were running a wishbone, I would ... Continue reading »

What should you do when you're at a position you don't like, but you're great at it?

    Tye’s answer:

What is your build? Can I get a height/weight? Also, do you know your 40 yd time? If not, where do you usually finish in sprints, etc. There is a way to handle this, but I need an idea of what you are working with...

    Tylar Davis asked:

does anyone have any tips on being a wide reciever

    Tye’s answer:

Wide Receivers do more than run routes and catch balls. First things first. Learn to block. (ala Hines Ward). When you block, use your quick feet to your advantage and stay in front of your man, get low and pop your hands into his shoulders and drive h... Continue reading »

    Coach Turner asked:

I am coaching pop warner football jr. peewee level. What is a good practice routine to do every day? not used to this level.

    Tye’s answer:

It's all about the fundamentals of the game at this age. I am also a coach for youngsters. We teach EVERYONE to block first. We have 40+ kids and it is a task. Every practice I have them start on their knees and pop the dummies with their hands (when t... Continue reading »

    Robert Galvan asked:

Some coaches have recommended the 5-3 defense for youth football. We cannot use a nose-guard in our league. how would the players line-up

    Tye’s answer:

It depends on the kids you have. You should always play to your strengths. If you feel like you have a big group of kids, or a strong group, the stick with the 5-3, or as Mr. Magee stated, the 6-2. I have always been a fan of 4-4 personally in leagues ... Continue reading »

    Victor Roa asked:

This i our first year as coaches for jv football (4,5,6th grades). Can anyone help with drills, plays, etc. The team has not won/scored in2yr

    Tye’s answer:

Losing streaks like this are usually the result of a mindset that has become part of the culture of the team. As soon as one play goes wrong, they say to themselves "Well, here we go again. Man, we stink." The trick is eliminating that mindset first an... Continue reading »
