    Wendy Waters Mc Ginnis asked:

What is the process for beginning a youth travel softball team?

    Tim’s answer:

I agree with Greg. It's a package deal when it comes to summer tournament teams.
Meet the parents and the player(s). Don't always recruit on talent alone but check
attitudes if at all possible. This will minimize issues that could come along later.

Just the other day our pitcher hit a batter in the hand while she was swinging. I

    1. The hand part of the bat? Can you purchase a baseball bat with hands included? The hands are always part of the body... not the bat. If a batter swings and gets hit by pitch in the hand it's a dead ball even if he hits the ball to the pitcher. The bat must put the ball in play. This would be a hit by pitch, no base award because the batter offered at the pitch.

Start with a coach or two. Decide how many tournaments you would like to play
in and their cost. Determine what uniforms you would like to have and cost.
Take the cost of the uniforms + tournament fees + insurance + governing body fees and
    divide ... Continue reading »

    Erin Pedersen Snider asked:

I'm helping to set up a NEW Softball Little League program in my home town. I'll be starting from scratch & will need to get funding.Ideas?

    Tim’s answer:

Most of my leagues funds come from player registrations. We charge anywhere
from $40 to $75 per player depending on what age group they are in. We have
approximately 200 players starting at age 5 up to age 14-15. Each player is also
required to par... Continue reading »
