Collegiate Softball Player Takes On Coaching

Softball runs deep in Coach Kim Spence's blood.  This Coach of the Week has drawn from her own experiences playing collegiate and competitive softball, and brought her passion for the game to her daughter's recreational team.  She has been coaching Ozark CRUSH Softball for six years now, with the goal of creating a team that could build on it's own past successes rather than starting fresh every year.

Coach Spence's love of the game shines through in her coaching experience.  She has gone undefeated with her varsity team, worked for 5 years to build a solid softball organization in her home town, and also helped two other teams get their own start!

She had nothing but great things to say about her current team writing, "This is the first year, of all my years of coaching, that I truly have a group of girls that just mesh well!  They are hitting well, fielding well, and are just fun to be around. Not only that, I owe everything to the other coaches I work with, as well as, the parents of these girls.  They are AWESOME!  They are helpful in so many ways and support each others children as if they were their own.  I couldn't do it without them!"

The team just wrapped its season, but is getting ready for Fall Ball coming up shortly.  Go CRUSH!

Coach Spence is also very involved with her son's soccer team, Christian County Rush Soccer.  She gives all the credit to their awesome coach and another team mom, Melissa, but she does an excellent job helping out and running the Weplay teams for all levels, ages 7-10.

This Coach of the Week's "Keys to Success" ring true no matter what sport you are involved with.

She wrote, "I think the keys of success fall COMPLETELY on making sure the girls LOVE the game.  Intensity and winning are GREAT but not at the expense of belittling a player privately, or publicly for that matter, like I so often see.  I have yet to see a player make a fielding error on purpose and she should NEVER be condemned for that.  If the girls don't truly love the game, they will never stand out there when it is 100 degrees outside and they are on a two-week batting slump!  It is ALWAYS "for the love of the game"."

The first thing Coach Spence wrote to Weplay, was that her family was the best and she would be nowhere without them.  "I am married to an awesome guy that puts up with my coaching obsession and I have three beautiful children that are all VERY involved in competitive sports.  Without these guys, nothing I do would be worth the effort!"

Thank you for your passion and dedication to youth sports.  Your mindset and philosophies support a positive environment for young players to learn, grow, and most importantly, have FUN!
