Nine year veteran soccer coach, LaShanna McCurtis, of Westland, Michigan is turning heads with her dedication to training young female athletes. Not only does she foster winning attitudes in her players, she both inspires and takes inspiration from their dedication to helping others and giving back to their community.
Like many parents, Coach McCurtis and her husband, Ken, developed a love for soccer after their eldest daughter, Erin, decided that was her sport. The McCurtis' two younger daughters, Kinsey and Colleen, followed suit and it has become a family affair.
Her current team, Wayne Westland United Lightning, is just finishing up their preseason training and getting going with their first tournaments of the season. Coach McCurtis has a new mix of players from different teams and they have been focusing on becoming a united team. She has no doubt that the talent they've got on this Lightning team will make for a successful and fun season!

One of McCurtis' past teams, the MSYSA Soccer Spotlight Team, worked hard on teamwork and conditioning over the 2007 winter season and finished their spring 2008 season undefeated! The girls also attended the Kohls American Cup, where they displayed an enormous amount of selflessness and generosity by participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Kicks for Cancer program. This week's Coach of the Week wrote, "Their hard work and dedication to helping others was truly an inspiration."
Coach McCurtis said she was honored by the nomination for Weplay's Coach of the Week. The Weply community is honored to have you and your inspiring players! Good luck with the upcoming season!

Congrats! What an honor! We appreciate all that you pour into our girls. What you are instilling in them now will stick with them the rest of their lives, not only in soccer but it will also influence how they develop as young women and leaders!
Coach McCurtis' love of soccer shows in all that she does with the team; her players learn to improve as a team and as individuals. We are very proud to have her as a coach and look forward to the upcoming season! Way to go Coach McCurtis!
