You may have heard of coaches who manage to do it all, and Coach of the Week, Barbara Davis would find herself on the top of that list!  Coach Davis is a basketball and volleyball coach in Dallas, TX, and she has truly dedicated her life to serving youth in the area, educating them in sports, fitness, life skills, performing arts and other activities.

Also a successful entrepreneur, mentor, community leader, volunteer and mother, she draws upon more than 20 years of experience successfully leading various ages of young people.  The PTA, Girls Scouts, and School and City Youth Sports and Recreation Departments have all recognized her for the outstanding job she does.

Living in Mississippi, Kansas and now Texas, Coach Davis is the founder and owner of a new pro-am basketball league, Greater Dallas Southern Basketball League.  The league is designed to give Dallas ballers an opportunity to showcase their skills and enhance their game, while gaining exposure from possible international clubs around the world.  They also look to gain attention from the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Continental Basketball Association, the D-League, and the International Women's Basketball Association (IWBL).  Davis is also the head coach and general manager of the Texas Hurricanes, a men's pro-am basketball team out of Dallas.

Coaching and officiating basketball and volleyball games, Coach Davis is known for her involvement in the Greater Dallas athletic and school community.  Her coaching resume includes eight years of youth volleyball and basketball (2001-09), one year coaching with the Dallas Diesels Women Basketball Team, six years of officiating youth, recreation and private collegiate sports (2003-09), five years of coaching summer track (2004-09), four years of JV/C basketball (1985-87, 2007), and over ten years of ownership of a youth sports company.

Coach Davis has been athletic since her high school days, where she still holds many records in multiple sports including volleyball, basketball, softball and track.  She received her Masters in Sports Management after earning her Bachelors in Secondary Physical Education.  After college she began working in education and raising her four daughters.  In 2008 she left her job in higher education to dedicate time to youth sports and her growing business.

Davis is a single mother (and soon to be grandmother) with four girls (all at home): Ty-Isha (19), Aleavia (17), Tkeyah (14) and Kianda (10).  The girls are at most practices, events, games, and camps their mother is involved in.  All of her girls have played or currently play sports for which Davis still makes time to coach, officiate and attend games.  Davis has also taught her children about her business.  Her oldest referees, the two middle girls are scorekeepers for youth basketball games, while the youngest one shadows her mom on the bench and cheers her on from the stands.

Coach Davis said she "enjoys teaching fundamentals of sports to youth of all ages, especially basketball & volleyball."  She "believes in teaching first, coaching second and feels that everyone is a winner if he/she applies what is learned to both the game and life."  She enjoys staying active (as if you couldn't already tell!) and loves that she has had the opportunity to interact with such a wide variety of people and watch so many young people grow in athletics and life.
