Spotlight on Swimming

After four amazing days of Olympic action, all I can say is WOW. Without questions, the 4x100 freestyle men's relay the highlight for me. It was AWESOME. The reason why all of the experts are saying that it was the greatest relay of all time is because it is SO difficult to do what Jason Lezak, the anchor of the race, did. To make up a whole body length in 100 meters or less is so hard. But that's what is so awesome about relays - you've got four guys swimming for the pride of their teammates and their country.

And the way the French were acting before the race, now you see what trash talk gets ya! Unfortunately, you see it a lot. You see guys in other sports saying "we're gonna win" or "I guarantee a super bowl championship this season." You do that kind of stuff and you're shooting yourself in the foot. Just sit back and let your actions speak.

The Greatest of All-Time

The biggest story of these games so far has been Michael Phelps and his three world records. I think it's fair to say that he's the greatest swimmer in the history of the sport, no matter what country. 100%. I don't think there's anybody that can beat that, at all. And he sealed the deal, not just by winning all these gold medals but by breaking the world records.

World Records fall every Olympics. Well maybe not in every Olympics, but if there is a time to do it, it's now. Records are made to be broken. It's cliché to say it, but that's the way it goes. The truth is people are getting faster. I don't think Michael Phelps is breaking his 400 IM record by over a second is because of his swimsuit. He trains so hard and this is just the perfect moment for him. He's just incredible.

More Than Michael

And the U.S. is proving that they are more than just Michael Phelps. The Aaron Piersols and Natalie Coughlins - it's their stage, the stage that they have been waiting for and that's why they're breaking world records because they trained hard and they're ready for it.

I will say I am surprised that Natalie Hoff hasn't gotten out to a better start. But it's funny because, that's the way it happened for me. I got a bronze in the 400 IM and then a silver in the 200 IM. I didn't win the gold until the last day. So I am surprised but, I still think it's wonderful, what she's done. She's got a tough schedule. I think the girl that won the 400 IM and the girl that got second were incredible times. It's not like Katie swam slow. So, she was in some really tough races where people had the swims of their life.

Opening Ceremonies

I only got to watch a part of the Olympic Opening Ceremony because of the kids, but the stuff that I did see was just amazing. It was so well orchestrated and planned. Then again, with China, we sort of always expect that perfection and precision from them, because that seems to be what they expect from themselves. They definitely did not disappoint anyone. And top it off, everyone seemed so happy. All the performers seemed so proud to be out there and representing their country. I just thought it was perfect.

I really just can't wait to see what happens next! Hope you are enjoying it.
