All About the Business

Hi weplay, Wishing a happy summer to you all. Summer is a time where we prepare to get ready for the next season, and I'm doing just that right now. One of the first lessons you learn when you become a professional athlete is that sports is a business. Sometimes it works out in your favor and sometimes you have to overcome different challenges. This is one of those times.

I will always love Seattle. I met my wife there and my family is there. Some great times. But this is business, and I understand that. In this league, you don't always get to pick the exact city you want to live in. So it's time to move on. But this isn't just unique to me, it happens to everyone no matter what profession you are in. Sometimes you just have to change jobs or switch schools because of events out of your control. The truth is that some coaches are leaving, my fullback is gone, half of my offensive line is already gone, so it was the right time for us to make this move anyway.

Because I broke my wrist, we knew that the offense had to change. I could no longer run to the left side. So it changed my game. So people kept asking me why my numbers and stats weren't the same last year, but that's only because I went from 27 carries per game to 12. My numbers were down because I had to split time. They should have been down.

So I'm as excited as ever because there is some inaccurate information about me out there, but I feel good. I'm healthy, running well and ready to play. But that's not why I play. It's not my style to prove the doubters wrong or clear up rumors. That's not my personality. It's just going to be an exciting year because I know what I can do on the football field. And I know what I do well. I just need to go out there and do it again.

I think my being healthy for my whole career up until last year raised the bar and threw everyone in Seattle off a bit. They didn't get why I wasn't playing on every play in every game or running for 100 yards and two TDs each game. It was good and bad - the good is that I set a high mark, but the bad was that I had to live up to that and not get hurt. So when I'd finish with 1400 yards and 18 TDs, I don't know if people realize how hard that was to do. I'm still so proud of that.

So I'm excited and looking forward to my next challenge. My goal is still to help a team win the Super Bowl. Or two of them.

Seattle was definitely lucky to have you all those years. Good luck wherever you end up!
