Throwing Strikes and Riding The Bus

Hey ya'all and welcome to my first weplay blog. Thanks for checking it out!

I'm really, really excited to be a part of the whole weplay family. I mean, look at some of the other names who are here... some pretty impressive athletes who have done some pretty amazing things. So it's cool to be a part of this on the one hand, but really exciting for me to see how sports is growing so rapidly, where it's headed and the way kids and parents are able to do these types of things online. Certainly wasn't around when I was a kid, that's for sure.

As you have probably seen, I already started playing around with the site. I set up my own profile... for real :)... and have put up a few things already. I was able to get my parents to give up some old pictures and videos of me playing softball as a kid, which is pretty crazy that everyone can see them now. Just shows you how far I've come, right? It's funny looking back on those days now, but I loved playing softball then, and I love it more now if that's even possible.

Speaking of softball, the U.S. National Team is smack in the middle of our 42-game "Bound 4 Beijing" tour all across the country. We have been busy preparing for another Olympic team, shooting for another Gold, by playing games against lots of different teams. We first had tryouts back in September and have been on the road since January, training hard. We started back in Arizona, went to Florida, back to California and then came here to Oklahoma City for the week. The fans have been awesome everywhere we've gone, which is, by far, my favorite part of this entire experience so far.

Training is important, but it's also really great to finally play against some other people. It helps us all grow as players, and as a team. We're all really pumped, even though everyone's a bit on edge because Coach is naming the alternates this week. We're together for like 3-and-a-half weeks out of every month, training, playing games and bonding, so decisions like this are never easy. This is work, but it's still fun, for sure. When you get 18 women together, many of whom have known each other forever, it's definitely a good time.

In family news, Ace is adorable (of course). He's with me here in Oklahoma City and has been a bit under the weather, but that hasn't slowed him down at all. Casey's down in Spring Training with the Minnesota Twins and Opening Day is just a week away. We got to see him and watch a game when we were down in Florida, cheering him on! I definitely look forward to Ace growing up and watching him play sports just like Mom and Dad. Which do you think he'll choose? I personally hope he picks softball, but either way, I have a feeling he'll be a pitcher...

So what about you? What's your story? You better believe I'm going to be on here reading your blogs and looking at your photos. I'm even getting my teammates to join weplay, too. So add me as your friend, post all of the fun images and videos of you playing your favorite sport, do all that good stuff... I'll cheer you on!

Think fast,

Jennie
