    A Person asked:

Are there any Volleyball Groups In Shelton, Washington or Olympia, Washington??

    April’s answer:

Look up aausports.org and usavolleyball.org and search for your state. The easiest, olympiavolleyball.com. Once you search their site, you may find others.

    Candice Coots asked:

We can all relate, tell us your personal story of parental sideline rage? How did you deal with it?

    April’s answer:

I'll NEVER forget! The worst was during a rec league tournament and I called time out to "break" the other team's serve. The referee made the error and called our side to serve (one player can only get a max of five serves in rec league). A parent (o... Continue reading »

    1. I didn't have a single problem with sideline rage because I told the parents on DAY ONE that I was the coach and that behavior would not be tolerated in any way, shape or form. Parents sign at least FOUR different conduct forms (the more the merrier) and something written by an attorney that says that rage is not permitted and a stiff fine is issued. If they are given enough information and guidelines, the problem usually doesn't rear up. I am proud to say after coaching for so long, I have NEVER had that problem on my team.

    Jose Castillo asked:

What is the greatest sport of all time?

    April’s answer:

Personally, Volleyball. However Soccer is the sport of nations. It is internationally known, loved, accepted and played. Countries literally shut down for a World Cup. Diamond productions in Africa are halted just to give enough energy to power telev... Continue reading »

    Carrie Campbell asked:

if you have a varsity volleyball coach who picks favorites and that no one likes, is there any way to get a new coach?

    April’s answer:

As much as I would recommend a team meeting, you/they have to realize the hidden consequences. When this very same situation happened to someone close to me, the parents who had kids playing all the time, started to "politely" attack the complaining p... Continue reading »

    1. Thanks April
Our athletic director already comes to all of our games, in fact, he is the announcer. And our principal wouldnt deal with this kind of problem because it is a sports related problem. But I really appreciate your recommendation.

    Shannon Mc Clellan asked:

im a pitcher/first base, and right now i am on a volleyball team for my school. how am i suppose to get my 200 practice pitches in everyday?

    April’s answer:

Remember that both sports use your arms a lot. Be very careful not to strain them. You really need to talk to both coaches to balance this out. If something bad happens, you'll end up being out of both and resentment will come. Make sure YOU are en... Continue reading »

    James Cochrun asked:

What is a good way to teach underhand serves to young kids?

    April’s answer:

I'm sure there are a ton of technical ways, but the way I taught my little team of 7-10 year olds to literally underhand throw the ball over the net, kinda like a bowling or softball pitch move. That way, they know how much force/speed it will take to... Continue reading »

    Gloria Saucedo asked:

i love volleyball and want to start playing again but how do i do it?? im too scared to get on top of it and playing again

    April’s answer:

COACH! There are so many recreation departments that need people who "want to get back in the game without doing it". It's wonderfully rewarding, and you'll learn about adult leagues through the rec department. There's no greater reward (after the d... Continue reading »
