A Rainy Friday Back Home in NY

Hey I'm back, as promised, this time writing to you back at home, where it's always good to be after a week on the road. Of course, being in New York takes on extra special meaning this week as we prepare for a weekend series with the Mets. Let's just hope it stops raining soon so we can get out there and play.

In the meantime, let's answer a few more of the questions you posted to my weplay page.

The first question is one from Eddie Acosta, who asked what position or player I would be if I could.

Thing is, I have always wanted to be a shortstop and can't really imagine playing any other position. Sometimes you just know.

A good one came in from big fan Nicole Fecht, who asked: If you could travel back in time, which yankee would you like to meet and why?

I'd have to say Lou Gehrig. He just epitomizes what a Yankee should be.

Ernie Singh wrote me with the following question. My son loves baseball but I think he is too young to start training as a player. How old were you when you started playing baseball?

I'm not sure how old your son is, but there are different levels of involvement for different ages. For me, I was five years old.

I actually have a lot more pictures of me playing from when I was that young that I'm going to go post on weplay right now.

That's it for me, at least for right now. Keep those questions coming and I'll get back to you soon.

.... My question is if you are the ssort of guy that when he goes clubbing he likes to dance or is one of the guys who just bounces his head to the rhythm? If you do dance, do you Merengue? And, last, does knowing to dance help while making a play...?

Sorry about the losses against the Mets. Do you mind when people politely ask for your autograph or a pic? I was at the team hotel in Baltimore and saw every player but didn't approach anyone b/c I didn't want to bother anyone.

Oh, I've got a question for your parents too! Have they ever considered writing a book on parenting? I was impressed with how they raised you after reading your book. I am curious how they dealt with Sharlee since she seemed a bit more rebellious!

hey i am a humongous yanks fan and play in little league. I play pitcher and shortstop and 3rd and I was wondering what you played in little league. Did you always play shortstop? If you did play other positions, what was your best out of those?

DEREK, I'VE BEEN A NY-ER, NATIVE BRONX-ER ALL MY LIFE, (AND SADLY HAVEN'T BEEN FORTUNATE TO EVER ATTEND A GAME) I LOVE IT, BUT WHAT IS SO GREAT ABOUT NY? MAYBE ITS THAT I'VE SEEN IT FROM THE 'AVERAGE JANE' PERSPECTIVE, BUT I WONDER, AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW
