end of an era

It goes without saying, but this was obviously a special weekend for all of us - players, coaches, staff and especially the fans...

The last time we will ever play in Yankee Stadium. A lot of thoughts and emotions running through my head right now, but since we've still got more games to play this season, I'll save those for later.

In the meantime, I wanted to thank the great family I got to meet on Friday night before the game. The Withrows from Marietta, Georgia were the winners of the weplay contest to meet me earlier this summer. Marietta... I could swear there was a minor league team down there but I can't be sure. Anyway, it was fun getting to spend some time getting to know Ken and his family.

Gotta love that an entire family from Georgia was decked in their Yankees gear.Anyway, thanks again to the many people who entered here on weplay and to all of you who have been writing in on my profile.

I'll get to some more questions soon and more even when things settle down again in a few weeks.

Hey Derek! Thanks for writing in. I thought that speech you gave in the final game at yankees stadium "The House of Ruth Built" was incredible. Also, I was sad because it was the last game in the stadium. Also good luck tonight against toronto.

I'm glad I had the chance to visit Yankee Stadium a couple of times... The last time was absolutely the best time... Living and growing up in Florida it was hard for me to get there, so the two times I was there I will always remember... Thanks #2 Jeter!!

    Hey Derek,
Big disappointment, no post-season this year. At least it was a collective failure, offensive and defensive.
I hope we can meet you next spring training, I will be in Tampa (with my parents) in February/March 2009 for our holidays.

man that has to suck derek

  • October 1st, 2008 10:13 AM

They got their Yankee gear just before the game in Times Square! They would have been happier meeting GQ's boy, Chipper Jones (kids don't read the sordid story)! What a weird season! I don't think Kennedy or Phil Hughes won one game . Next Season!

derek, went to yankee stadium 3 months ago.It gave me tingles with all the history there. I'm a high school coach in pa. and was dissapointed how many of my players did not know that many names in monument park
