    Lexi Eckert asked:

What is the base of all tumbling and cheerleading flips?

    Jennifer’s answer:

The handstand is the basis for cartwheels, round-offs, and front and back handsprings.

Forward and backward rolls are the basis for tucks. (But there's obviously more to it than just that.)

    Ashlie asked:

how do i get my standing five backhandsprings on the ground faster?

    Jennifer’s answer:

Throw hard, block hard, and make sure you have good form and body position at all times. Also try doing your series out of a snap down drill from a stack of panel mats. (If you don't know what that is, just google "back handspring snap down drill video")

    -Brittney Hemmands asked:

I am trying out for cheerleading this year and my jumps lack height. What are some ways I can make my jumps higher?

    Jennifer’s answer:

You've gotten some good advice here. Definitely do stretching like splits, pikes and straddles, and exercises that work your abs and legs. (Your legs lift your body into the air, but your abs lift your legs into position. So work on both.) You can prob... Continue reading »

    Chelsea Mc Millan asked:

interesting lvl 4 tumble pass ?

    Jennifer’s answer:

Unfortunately, while Kirk is right about how cool those twisting skills are, you are lvl 4 cheer so no twisting yet. (And no triple fulls ever.)

I would say go for the highest level difficulty that you can safely do. I think that back extensions/neck ... Continue reading »

    2. Yeah, it can be interesting when you have gymnasts and cheerleaders trying to talk to each other. There's just enough similar ground to confuse the heck out of everybody sometimes. :^D

If you ever feel a curiosity to find out how cheering breaks down tumbling skills, this is a chart that explains it for all-star cheering: http://usasf.net/safety/cheerrules/ Level 1 is the lowest and 6 is the highest. It may seem rather basic to a high level gymnast but when you have up to 36 people out on the floor, throwing double saltos could be very dangerous. Never know who you might land on. LOL

    Alexis Cooley asked:

what is the ages for cheering?

    Jennifer’s answer:

It varies from place to place. Some areas don't offer cheer until Jr. high school or later, others might start with tiny tots (3 years old.) It all depends on whether or not there are strong school, all-star, or rec programs there.

    Alexis Cooley asked:

does anyone know where i can find a cheer team for my 4year old daughter?

    Jennifer’s answer:

Google "the gym directory" and see if you can find one in your area. Also check with your nearest YMCA and your local Parks and Rec director to see if they have anything available.

    Angel Gondeck asked:

What type of skills should you have befor you tryout for cheerleading

    Jennifer’s answer:

No one but the coach can tell you exactly what you need, so go ask before you try out for a team that requires skills you don't have, like a back tuck for example.

Beyond that try googling cheerleading basics so you can work on the general skills that... Continue reading »
