The Next Big Thing

As the gold medal-winning U.S. Women's soccer team travels the country this fall, playing friendlies and exhibitions games, there is another important goal that these women are working towards and need all of your support.

Next year, the new Women's Professional Soccer league, or WPS, will begin play featuring these top stars. As far as the success of the WPS, this gold medal by the United States was absolutely huge. This will help get people's attention and make them want to buy tickets. To be able to say "Come out and see the gold medalists of YOUR National Team" gets people's attention. So it's helpful, though I wouldn't say it's critical because these are the same players they were before. They now have an Olympic gold medal to back them up.

I don't know if I've mentioned it, but this new generation of young U.S. soccer stars gives me so much hope. It's funny watching these games and seeing other faces, young faces, wearing #6 or #9 or #13. I remember different women in those uniforms for nearly 20 years. But it was only a matter of time and it happens in most sports, seeing someone else wearing your favorite player's jersey. National teams do not and cannot retire numbers. It's a transition, initially very odd, but then all very normal.

Pretty soon, in just a few years, we'll see a whole new generation playing at this top level, and that will include some of you. The important thing is to keep working and never give up on your dreams. Who knows, maybe you could be the next big thing in soccer or another sport?!?

As for me, we're working on setting up some more camps this fall, though they are more spur-of-the-moment type deals so we'll see what the schedule looks like. I'd love to do more, so I'll keep you all in the loop. Have a great season everyone and stay healthy!

    Brandi,

Could you take a free moment and post a personal comment to my U8 girls soccer team? They just seem to be motivated and I think that getting a personal note from you would start a fire underneath them. Thank you for your time!
