Learning and Growing with My Team

I''ve been away from the Gold Pride for a bit now. Filming the show has been a blast, and the time away from the team and has really made me reflect on the game and my performance so far this season.

I've been very happy with how things are starting out. I know there is a lot of room to grow. I'm 40-years-old and I still think I can be a better player. I think our team's coaching is going to help me be a better player. I think it's going to expose some of the talent that maybe I didn't get to use through either my position or the style of soccer that I was playing.

So I'm really excited about that. It's a wonderful new chapter in my soccer story.
It always takes adjusting joining a new team and I've had to shift gears with the amount of playing time. I think that's been a really positive aspect of being with Albertine and the Gold Pride because I love to be a starting player, but I'm not one at this point.

Right now I'm ok with where I am. I feel I'm fitting in really well. It's really important that athletes have a positive feeling about how they fit in with their team, what their role is, and how to best get their talent out. I wasn't really sure about how that would go, but I'm feeling really good about that. I'm happy to say that I'm in a good place.

The other big adjustment has been with my new position, playing center mid-field. I was a forward initially in college and with the national team. And then, I played in the back when I came back to the national team. You know, just by playing over the years, I feel comfortable on the field anywhere. I've not really played in this position and I think there is a lot to learn about where to be and how to be in position and when to get into it, but it's still soccer. At the end of the day, you know, it's still soccer.

A lot of people say, "What are you doing playing there (center mid-field) at 40-years-old?" Like Fowdy asked me, "So are you playing left back now?" I said, "No. I'm playing center mid field." She goes, "Does your coach know how old you are? Do they know you're 40?" I just thought that was really funny.

Congrats to my teammates for a win over the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday. Go Pride!

I'll check back in soon. Jaden's 3rd Birthday is coming up so I'll be sure to share!

Thanks for sharing that story Brandi. I could not agree with you more about the issue of the importance of athletes having a positive feeling about how they fit in with their team, what their roles are, and the best way to utilize their skills.
