Weplay Team Parent Honors

By Candice Coots

When it comes to youth sports, team moms and dads could not be more important!

Year after year, team parents give countless hours to help make your season that much more valuable. So much so, coaches often find themselves indebted to parent volunteers.

Why, because team parents organize: snack schedules, car pools, administrative paper work, team parties and even fundraisers!

And what about the player/team parent relationship? As a kid, team mom’s not only acted as my personal car service (picking me up and dropping me off each game), they also consoled me when I didn’t perform my best, comfort and bandaged me after a fall and most importantly, cheered me on!

Team parents give unending support to everyone on field or court. That’s why we’re launching a new Team Parent Honor. Giving some thanks to those that give all season is long overdue!

NOMINATE your Team Parent today!

Our first Team Parent honoree, Cyndi Wazal, has been supporting the Winchendon Pop Warner Cheerleaders and Coach Amy Dupuis for more than four years!

“Cyndi allows me to completely focus on what I love to do – coach,” wrote Winchendon Coach, Amy Dupis. “She’s one of my greatest resources and having her helps me to be a better coach!”

A self-classified overachieving, underpaid mom, Wazal may not earn the big bucks, but she’s certainly claimed the love and devotion of her cheerleaders and greater youths sports organization. Her 11-year-old daughter Steph, a cheerleader on the Winchendon Pee Wee team is certainly lucky to have her biggest supporter around too!

But like most team mom’s, Wazal has plenty on her plate. She coordinates all membership paperwork for the Winchendon cheerleaders – working with regional Pop Warner cheer officials to ensure applications, safety forms, physicals and tournament paperwork are submitted and in good standing. She’s also the head of team party planning and extracurricular activities. That’s of course, on top of her greatest role: giving hugs and support when it’s most needed.

To be sure our Massachusetts’s Team Mom deserves her own Most Valuable award for being, as Coach Dupuis put it, "the Best Team Mom!"

Congrats on your Team Parent Honor Cyndi Wazal – what would the Winchendon cheerleaders do without you!
