Team Mom Gains Strength from Tough Times

By Kim White

Many years ago, our Team Mom of the Week, Jill Bellavance, 43, battled a loss when her father passed away from Lou Gehrig's disease. To this day she uses the strength she gained from that tough time in her life to dedicate herself to helping others as a team mom and community volunteer.

Currently, Bellavance manages the U14 Bulldogs, a Mass Premiere Soccer (MPS) team, and enjoys getting to know all the parents. She is amazed at how wonderful all the Bulldog parents have been and is thankful to have such a great team supporting her. The Bulldogs are 6-1-1 so far this season and Bellavance believes their hard-working attitudes will take them far this season.

Other than MPS, Bellavance and her family have been a part of many organizations over the years. She's proud to say that when her family is involved they are always "all-in". She has found it's easy to have that attitude working with a great program like MPS. Her husband Kevin, sharing her commitment, never misses any of their two kids games. Their 14-year-old son, Ryan, is a player on the Bulldogs while their daughter, Megan, loves Irish step dancing.

The Bellavance family has loved being a part of MPS so much that they have opened their home to two abroad coaches in just the past year. They have found it to be a great opportunity for their children to have another role model around the house, as well as someone to talk to. Bellavance is happy that she has been able to provide a warm and welcoming home for these young coaches.

Not only does she give back to the coaches of MPS by opening up her home to them, she also works full time for the Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis association (ALS) planning events and fundraising. After going through what she has with her dad, she hopes to make a positive impact in the lives of others affected by Lou Gehrig's disease.

Since she is very busy working for ALS, Bellavance needed an online outlet to help manager her team. As a mom she had always turned to Facebook but after stumbling upon Weplay, she found it to be the perfect fit for her team. "Why didn't someone think of this before?" commented Bellavance who uses Weplay to post game updates.

Congratulations Jill, on being named our Team Mom of the Week. We are lucky to have someone with your heart on Weplay. Go Bulldogs!

Jill Bellavance's recommendations for fellow Team Moms:

  • Set up a Weplay team page to help your team stay unified

  • Encourage your coach to use the Postgame feature to recap games and tournaments

  • Set up the Weplay iPhone app!
