For Team Mom, Nina Rieger, of Henderson, Nevada, family life extends out of the home and on to the playing field - and she would have it no other way!
She is team mom for her son, Caelen's, 10 and under baseball team - the Tampa Bay Rays, while dad, Randy, is the head coach.
When asked about her best experience as a team mom, Rieger gave nothing but praise to her family and team. "There's really no one experience... it's the total experience," she wrote. "I love being a part of my son's sports and my husband's coaching - It's a family affair."
Rieger has an extremely busy schedule: working full time in the gaming industry in Las Vegas, serving on the board for HFFL (Henderson Flag Football League), and working towards a board member position with the PVLL (Paseo Verde Little League). With so much on her plate, the commitment she places in being team mom for the Rays is unmatched.
With a 6th place league finish in their inaugural season playing kid-pitch, and an overall 6-7-1 (W-L-T) record, the Rays have assured a strong group of returning players for next season. With the help of the Riegers, they are well on their way.
Rieger wrote, "Our team ended up with a decent record, but it was our first year in kid-pitch, so it was a learning experience for my husband and son." Next year's goal is to play well and secure a spot in the "Tournament of Champions.
We wish them congratulations on a solid first season, and we can't wait to see how the Rieger-led Rays do next year!
Rieger's Advice for other Team Moms:
(1.) Be organized
(2.) Take charge immediately (don't rely on the coach to tell you what to do). The more you do at the beginning of the season, the easier it is at the end of the season.
(3.) Love what you do. If you don't love organizing and being 100% into the sport, don't volunteer for Team Mom.
