A True Baseball Family

By Kim White

Congratulations to this week’s Team Mom and first grade teacher, Lauri Vaughn, of Fresno, California.

Vaughn is the proud team mom of her 6-year-old son Christian’s baseball team, the 12U RP Connection. But family participation doesn’t stop there. In fact, every member of the Vaughn troop volunteers with the RP Connection. Heading up the coaching roster is Vaughn’s husband Greg, and their teenage daughter helps with score keeping on game days. Indeed, the Vaughn’s are a baseball family through and through!

When asked what she enjoys most about being team mom, Vaughn emphasized how much she values the time her family unit spends together on the fields.

Most of us try to find a place outside of work to relax and when possible, give back to our communities. Vaughn knew from the moment she took on the team mom role that she had found the perfect work/family combination - keeping busying with the one’s she loves most outside her classroom.

Three helpful tips from Team Mom, Lauri Vaughn:

1. Over Communicate.

Team Mom Vaughn goes above and beyond for her team! She keeps everyone up to date with emails, texts, flyer's, and is the lead organizer for their group page right here on Weplay (Check it out!). She understands that everyone has a busy life, but that parents need easy access to team information.

2. Get to Know the Families on the Team.

During her journey as team mom, Vaughn has most enjoyed making new friendships with new team members and their families. She 100 percent believes that team chemistry comes from knowing the families and players that come together each season.

3. Have Fun!

Vaughn understands the key to being part of a youth sports team is to have FUN, and to enjoy every moment! And she’s right! Every team has its ups and downs, but as we all know, time flies! Take a step back, and enjoy what you have.

Lastly, Vaughn told us that the 12U RP Connection baseball team entered a new adventure this summer and have decided to move up to 50 foot pitch and 70 foot baselines. She is excited to be there and watch the team learn and build confidence.

Congratulations again to our Team Parent of the Week, Lauri Vaughn.

As long as he does something that’s from the heart that will make him happy, I’ll be good.
