Does Your Youth Athlete Get it?

by Kirk Mango, posted January 16 2011

Even though the term “click” conjures up a distinct sound one hears, in the context I am referring to here it is more a situation one sees rather than something one hears. Such is the way a young athlete demonstrates the change from just playing a sport as one might during recess to competing in a sport as an athlete.

This is the topic of discussion in Part I & Part II of Bill Wells Discusses The "Second Click" In Youth Sports, Then Asks If There Is A Third, a unique three-phase view of how athletes might move along their competitive path.

Kirk is the author of "Becoming a True Champion: Achieving Athletic Excellence From the Inside Out" (forthcoming publication from Rowman & Littlefield, 2012), and the blog "The Athlete's Sports Experience: Making a Difference." Both his book and blog are written for the purpose of making a difference in the loss of perspective common in youth, high school and collegiate levels of sports.
