Question
Why does some of the coaches are good in teaching the kids the right way to bowl.
We have a coach on the school team that just pick the kids that he like that are great in bowling and not help the other kids that are trying to learn to bowl better. Why I am asking this we have a coach on this team in school that did not put my son on any of the team to play against another school. But the coach all was tell him that he will be on the team when they bowl again. I don't get there until the meets are going on and I see my son down on the practice lane. He said to me one night that he did it again. The coach did not put him on the team. But there was another student that her mom told him that she is on the school team to get her in the meets. The coach did do that for her. But when I was trying to talk to him I just didn't hear me or didn't what too. The coaches did not let some of the kids now when the banquet was at all. About one month later they came and gave my son , his bowling paper and a lollpip. Boy did that make my son very agree about that. I let the head of the school sport and let him know what happen. I think that he was trying to cover it up.

I am assuming you are referring to a high school bowling team. If not, please clarify your situation.Assuming so, unfortunately my experience with high school bowling is this is the beginning of when it becomes most important to win versus allowing the team members to participate. Typically a Varsity or even JV team will have 5 bowlers who compete each game. Occasionally members from the practice squad/team will bowl under limited circumstances, typically if the team is either way ahead or way behind the other team. I'm not saying I condone this strategy but this is what occurs.
Typically high school bowling coaches are not well versed in the sport of bowling or even a bowler themselves. Most of these coaches also lack any formal training in coaching the sport of bowling. Coaching at the high school level has a different dynamic as to how coaches are even selected. High School Bowling Coaches tend to see who shoots the highest game and put the top 5 as their team.
I would encourage you to seek lessons with a USBC certified coach for your son and suggest to the school's athletic director (or principal) that the bowling coach secure Bowling Coach Certification through USBC or another recognized entity in bowling.
I hope this helps you understand the situation better. Bowling Coaches who understand the sport and are certified by the United States Bowling Congress have a much better ability to develop the skills of each bowler on their team, whether they are a starter or on the practice squad.

Thank you very much. Yes that is what I was saying that it is the high school team. My husband did fine out that allot of the parents of the kids on the team feel the same way as I do. One of parents works with my husband. He even said that amost every parent complans about the coach to the school and the school will not do anything about it, becouse no one wants the job of teaching the kids how to bowl right. This coach have been a coach for about 30 + years. But again thank you very much.

This is unfortunate that this happens in all sports. "Real" coaches coach the whole team and not just the better players.
With our high school team we have two goals. The first is to ultimately win the state championship which means that our better players will get the majority of the playing time later in the season. The second is to letter as many players as makes sense for the team. We are constantly working will all of our players to see who will progress to be able to contribute to our run at the state championship.
We are also fortunate to have 5 coaches for the 4 teams we field. That was someone is working on developing all of the players. All of our coaches are at least USBC Bronze Certified. In my estimation, this is critical for all bowling programs.

I was told by another parent that if he does not have a average of 150 he can not be on the team. I don't think that is right. I hope that we can get the parents to say more before not year starts up . On our team we have two coaches for 4 team . See in the school that we are from we have the JV and Varsity and that is with boys and girls and them they bring in the JR High school kids and they bowl with the rest of the team from the High school.

trust me about this because im a highschooler. all highschools care about is beating the other team. thus the coaches play the better players. ive never bowled for a highschool because my school doesnt have one but its the same in all sports. maybe getting him another coach (like on weekends) to help him out would be great!

I think they also bowled when they were a kid

they usually had many years of experinece and like to share but the high school team in my area is different. They just picked random people to coach so hey have favorite people and thats the only one they coach or even talk to, its ridiculous in my opinion.

A good coach will set standards. Such as the top average 5-6 bowlers are varsity and so forth. The team with good records, weekly stats, meets stats and works with all the kids will gain respect. A high school coach regardless of sport should put all the kids first, then the wins will come.
