I believe there really isn't a magic pre-game meal. It's probably best to eat what you are comfortable with and avoid foods that are high in protein, fat and fiber in the hours before a match. Complex carbs like potatoes, pasta, bread, etc., are a good way to go. Avoid lots simple sugars right before like candy, pop, lots of syrup on pancakes, etc.
At halftime, I like to give my players grapes, orange slices and or banana thirds. Cantaloupe and watermelon are probably pretty good too.
Water is the most important thing to remember. I don't suggest any of the sports drinks beforehand. Same with during the match, although they often taste really good and may offer some psychological boost.
For after the match, chocolate milk seems to be one of the top choices.
The magic in sports food might be so much what you eat, but the routine you get into that makes you feel good. You would be amazed at what top athletes eat (or don't eat) in the hours before an event. The bottom line is that they are comfortable with their meal routine and keep it pretty similar every time.
Have fun!

What I've learned is that the best thing to do is 15-30 minutes before the game is to eat a bannana and a cup of water.but depending on the time of the game you may want to eat as you normally do (especially if its lunch time)just dont eat junk!
