what is the importance of icing a pitcher's arm

my 12 yr old daughter does not like to ice her arm after pitching. She pitches a lot even sometimes 2 games in a row in one day (the innings are limited to 2 or 4 in one game but the next is sometimes 6) . I am told by her pitching coach to ice her arm but she won't do it because her arm doesn't hurt. Also would icing between games cause any harm?

I believe it is not good to ice. Icing doesn't reduce swelling, but relieves pain, so people think it is good. The best thing to do is to exercise your arm lightly, like riding a bike, so your body can get out the lactic acid (which makes your arm hurt) on its own.

From my view Icing a pitchers arm is the best way to go..even non pitchers need to ice..I play 3rd base and they require me to ice every night after a practice or game, i cant imagine the stress on a pitchers arm..a girl on my team has shoulder problems as well from not taking a break on her arm she ices it and it is recovering faster.
