The third baseman and he or she should straddle the bag.

SS slides over and covers 3rd. Depending on the age level, left field can sneak up and cover 3rd as well - though not usually recommended.

it depends on the situation! Some times the pitcher needs to cover depending on where the ball is hit

I was always taught short stop covers. I thinnk that it would take pitcher too long to cover and it would take left field too long to cover.
