Having a lot to offer as a coach, you want to be able to share your experence on the professional level.

Hi Dwight, Professional questions really are not what this website is about, but what the heck, baseball is baseball. One thought I would have is try to hook up with a ameuture summer league as a coach, like the Cape Cod league. These leagues are made up of the best College Players (most players have been drafted but opted for college instead, 1 out of every 7 will make the bigs, 1 out of every 7 MLB players played in the Cape Cod League, Evan Longoria, Tim Linsicum, Kevin Youkolous....) Every game is filled with MLB scouts and agents, try to make a connection.

Every Cape Cod league team has a week day youth clinic run by players. last year my son, who was 8, had a great day camp experience supervised by a player, Anthony Ronadeau, a great MLB pitching prospect that is a Sophmore at LSU, he was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2007. The cost of the camp (m-f 9 to noon) was $75. which included a T shirt, pop cycles, and slip and slide Friday. I can't recommend it more. Youth Baseball in the morining, afternoon at the beach, great (free) ameature baseball in the evening, does it get any better?

By the way anyone looking to have an affordable Fenway Park experience, the Cape Cod League all star game will be at Fenway Park in late July, $10. General admission (think monster seats, field- box seats....)

    Great Answer!

WHAT KIND OF ANSER IS THAT. MICKEY MANTLE WOULD BE THE FIRTS TO TELL YOU THAT HE WAS NOT A GOOD COACH. GOOD PLAYERS DO NOT ALWAYS MAKE GOOD COACHES. MICKEY EXPECTED THE PLAYERS TO BE ABLE TO DO WHAT HE WAS ABLE TO DO, AND WAS ANGRY QUICKLY WHEN THEY COULD NOT PEFORM AT HIS LEVEL. ALL THE OTHER PLAYERS FIGIRED IT OUT. YOU HEAD OFF TO THE PRO INDEPENDENT LEAGUES AND START OVER AGAIN. LEARN YOUR CRAFT. CECIL FIELDER, WALLY BACKMAN,SPARKY LYLE, HALL LANIER, BROOKS AVERY, DAVE CASH, RICH GEDMAN, RICK MILLER, RICHIE HEBNER, BRYCE FLORIE, ETC ETC ARE IN THE INDEPENDENT LEAGUES LEARNING HOW TO BE GOOD COACHES. Hi again Dwight, I really like your question, if I had the experience and skill you have I would desperately be seeking an MLB job myself. I assume these Summer league Coaching slots are more competitive than the player slots, but someone with your experience might get lucky, especially if you are willing to help out with the summer camp type activities. I also don't know if they pay anything.

Also, With 13 years in pro ball you must know some contacts. Baseball people are always willing to look out for each other. There must be many many baseball people you know that are willing to help you get your foot in the door. For example, I read this great story about Charle Metro and Billy Martin. Charlie was a MLB player during the pre WWII era (he also managed the Cubs and was Asst. Gm and field manager for the Royals), the Giants traded him to the Oakland Oaks (Casey Stengle was the manager of the Oaks back then), where a teen-age Billy Martin was the Oaks' bat boy. Charlie often pitched BP to young Billy. Years later the two meet up, when Billy found out Charlie was one year short of a players Union pension, Billy hired Charlie as a bench coach for the Oakland A's, this was in 1982. Baseball people look after Baseball people. Do you any Billy Matin types?

By the way, I looked it up, are you the same Dwight Taylor that played for the Royals in 1986?

Anyhow, good luck, if you make it to the show, and there is a front office job available: Contract Negotiation, Public Relations, whatever, look me up!

    Good Luck! Mark
