I'm sixteen years old and I've never wrestled before. Most guys I know have done it since they were young. Is it too late for me to start?

I some guys say I should stay with football cause that's what I've always done. But I've always wanted to try wrestling.

no, if you want to do it go for it! my best friend is 16 and he just started wrestling this year, you might have to work harder than the other guys but that may motivate you to be more committed and you just might end up being better than those other guys because of your dedication.

My husband taught me to wrestle at age 27 and I was able to learn fast enough to
be competitive with women's collegiate wrestlers. My husband/coach was an
ex-collegiate wrestler - if you can find someone who will teach you the core moves
and a few tricks over the summer you'd be surprised what you can do with hard work!

It's never too late to start. If my memory serves, Mark Schultz, 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist & former NCAA Champion at Oklahoma, started wrestling at about 15. How good & how far you want to go inwrestling is totally up to you. Wrestling is fun sport. I hope you start wrestling & enjoy the experience.

17 year old Bobby Lloyd won the State tournament in 1974. Undefeated and it was the first year he ever wrestled. His teammate Eddie Foster won the state which was Eddie's 2nd year he wrestled. Also, Eddie returned the next year to win it all again. What was the difference? Drills, Drills and more Drills. Gee, I wish you lived here. We have a mat at our church. And no one here is thirsty enough to drink from the cup. Give me an honest three months of giving your absolute best. That's long enough to develop the habits you need. After that, you'll wind the states if you really want it. One qualifying question. Are you up for 5 am practices?

It's never too late to try anything. Commitment,Dedication and Focus are key to Wrestling. You not only have to learn offensive and defensive techniques you have to learn to move like a Wrestler. To turn the "right way". Perseverence. All of which you will carry throught the rest of your life. My best advice with Wrestling and everything you choose to do be it college or a career right into family life is to give it everything you have. The more you put into anything...the more you will get out of it. Attack life or it will attack you.
