At that age it's just very important to start on building very good basics and just make the sport as fun as possible. Batting could be started with using the tee.

Use a small tank tompson glove. they are great for new comers. Know im not a guiness at any sport but i played soft ball for 5 years...The main tip is to have fun.always hit a ball when it is between your waist & were your breast line starts.always hit in that area. Nothing above or below! good luck with your new comings of a new softball player!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

I started having a catch with my lil sister with a foam softball or a tennis ball to get her used to throwing and catching the ball in her glove and not being afraid.

    1. Kimmy has suggested a great idea for you Kinsley. I would add that you start working on what your sister shows interest in. If she's in the mood to throw the ball- throw the ball with her..etc..etc.

Have her field grounders without a glove and bring it to her belly then do this over and over. This gets them used to handling the ball and transfering it from hand to hand. If they can get it with their hand they are less likely to roll under the glove!

make sure that she can get grounders and pop flys so that way she does get hurt while praticing with other people and or in a game maybe help her figure on how she should hold the bat and how to hit the ball there is many other ways that you could help her you could help her throw right and other stuff start with a tennis ball of a foam ball perferably the same size as a softball and make sure she's not afraid to catch the ball...!
