Undefeated Youth Football Team Banned From Playoffs
A 5th grade football team has been denied a chance to show off their skills after having an excellent season. The Sedalia Junior Outlaws were banned from the playoff games because they're too good and now the team's coach is speaking out.
The kids earned a spot in the playoffs after dominating their league. After being told they weren't allowed to play, the kids are heartbroken and coaches are confused. The team made a splash by going 6-0 in the regular season in the West Central Youth Football League.

Not knowing the back story- from what you stated only and only going off of that.
I would have to say it's a shame and I feel bad for those kids. They worked hard to achieve such greatness for the season and are now given the impression, that when you are too good- you can't compete for a playoff event.

EVERY LEAGUE OR NON-PROFIT HAS A BOARD HE NEEDS TO MEET WITH THAT BOARD AND GO OVER THE RULES. IF AN AGREEMENT CANT BE MADE SUE THEM FOR THE KIDS REGISTRATION FEES AND TIME AND SUFFERING.

I would first go to the governing body for the league. Unfortunately, things are not always handled justly. This is an opportunity to educate these young athletes in handling controversy. They need to see their coaches resolving conflict in a calm and mature manner. Regardless of the outcome, the team will witness excellent leadership in their coaching staff. They will carry this example with them throughout life!

Youth sports have changed over the years, for the better and for the worse. As my father stated to me years ago, we have sissified America (Huge discussion which applies to youth sports), and today, I think there is some truth to that statement. Let's not sugar coat life and let's not forget sports are about life wining, losing, working together on a common goal etc. Not knowing the history of your situation, I would start the bureaucratic process of filing the necessary paperwork in order for people in charge to review the decision. At the same time, see if you can get a petition going and have the parents of the many teams and some of your sponsors in your league to sign in support of your team's reinstatement unfortunately, no guarantees due to your narrow time constraints. Good luck!

there are diff leagues A bieng the best and C are the up n comers . sounds like the league thinks u guys r supposed to b in the higher league and u guys didnt sign up with ur right class,at least thats va rules. If not and that was all a part of hard work,me being a coach and almost n the same situtation this year with my team dominating the league and they tried to just call us champs and let the rest of the teams hav a playoff system, until we went to board and demanded playing for the chip. Our team was a group c league so not knowing wat we had we joined the c league and we explained we coached these kids up and by no way did we try and cheat the league so they looked back at our record from last year and deemed us fit to be in
the yhe playoffs because we were n the c leauge every year. Good luck to u guys and remember SACRAFICE IS A NECESSARY PART OF FOOTBALL AND LIFE,WITHOUT EXPECTING A REWARD U WILL ACHIVE MORE THAN EVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE!!! -
that sucks. at least i have daughters

Hello All,
I looked up the article at http://pressreleases.kcstar.com/?q=node/43449 and the league did not comment much on the situation, although it is assumed the league didn't want the undefeated team to play because the other team would forfeit instead. In football I guess it is very possible to really get hurt if one team is much better than another, where as in softball that is not normally the case. As a youth league board member, I am very interested to know the REAL reason, but it mostly appears to be to make a majority of the league parents happy. But if they don't apply the rule to all division, levels, and ages, they will lose their fight (the league that is). I also think the Junior outlaws should get acknowledged as champions, but what do we all do with that $9 trophy anyway? -
thats not fair that stuff shouldnt be banned
