Two Seam Vs Four Seam?

I've seen some pitchers use a two seam grip on their fastball and rise pitches. Is there an advantage to either? Michele Smith appears to use a two seam rise in her videos, and I think I've seen that Cat Osterman used a two seam for her fastball. Wouldn't a two seam grip have less movement and tend to flatten?

Thanks ahead,
Ken

Hi Ken, In Baseball a two seam grip has more movement. Accorindingly if you want more movement on a fastball, use the two seam grip or if you want more accuracy, use a two seam grip. Also when fielding and throwing a four seam grip is better. I have always this assumed this principle applies to Softball as well as baseball. Mark

Sorry Ken I should have proof read that answer before sending it. A two seam grip pitch has more movement and a Four seam grip pitch is more accurate. Four seam grip is better for fielding throws. Mark

To clarify: A two-seam rise grip will rise (or appear to rise) more than a four seam; and a two-seam fast or dropball will move more than a four-seam grip?

From what I understand - the 4 seam grip will have more "bite" and will stay on a more accurate/steady path.

The 2-seam because it doesn't have all those seams cutting through the air tends to "move" more rather than simply stay "on path" on the way to the plate. Though I think the 4-seams has more "break" or maybe "tighter break" - not sure I'm using the best terminology to try to explain this. LOL

Thanks for the responses. To summarize, the two seam tends to wander, and the four seam follows a more precise line? And further, the two seam has less break than a four seam? Given that, a four seam will rise or drop more sharply than a two seam?

Thanks for your help and patience.
