    Hi Sweetheart!

There are several progressions that can be used. However, I must caution you on this skill, or any skill, on the beam. Without proper training, spotting, and matting the risk for injury is great due to the beam being only about 4" wide and 3-4' off the floor - depending on adjustment. Also, I would strongly recommend going to a club where a certified coach, proper matting, a pit, etc. are available to help. This is a much more difficult skill then say a cartwheel on the floor is and should be trained with caution.

First, you must be able to do them consistently on a tape line, or any line, on the floor. And consistently means solid and with both feet on the line, one slightly in front of the other, when you land!!! Use a spotter until you are safe to try them on your own.

If you can do this you can progress to a low beam with pannel matts stacked on both sides (right up against the beam) so that the surface of the beam is level with the stacked matts. Again, use a spotter until you are safe here to try it without one (use spotters at each progression).

Next, slowly lower the pannel matt (1-2" at at time) by unfolding one pannel of the matt on each side. Do this using the above progression until you can do it by yourself without the pannel matts. Make sure the beam is placed on some sort of a matted surface as well.

After this you can follow the same procedures you have used so far up to a higher beam, and then to the high beam.

Remember, it will take time to build up the skill, confidence, and courage to do a skill such as this. However, many do accomplish this skill with practice.

    Hope this Helps.

    Best

    Kirk

You probably can't do it again because you are scared about what might happen! The same thing happened to me! Just look past those fears and know that when it comes to gymnastics there are NO limits! Basically throw hard and maybe start on the low beam with a beam mat! Work your way up! I wish you the best of luck!
