So it is not always necessary to stop someone from throwing side arm, but if she is hurting her arm it is probably best to break her of it.

One drill that I have used with a younger group was to partner up players doing a one knee toss at about 10 to 15 ft apart. As part of the drill I placed a tee that is extended to shoulder height right next to the players, forcing them to keep their elbows even or above the shoulder. The other thing as part of the drill is to have them really follow through. I try to make sure that they are following through and touching grass on the outside of the front foot. If they are throwing sidearm it will be very difficult to accomplish this because the arm would be following through more parallel to the ground going across the body.

    Hope this helps.

Remember to throw over the top. Keep doing that and you'll probably break the habit.

focus when you are throwing on keeping your arm going over the top, not to the side. if you keep focusing you will eventually break the habit

what you can do is pretend that there is a table. When you stretch your arm back it should be on that imaginary table. Then bring it over top. It's just about practicing the right way.

just start throwing overhand more often. Side-arm is a natural arm motion but if you throw overhand for a while you will stop throwing side-armed.

One of the hardest things to do is to unlearn a skill you're used to doing. You have to allot and take time to learn the new skill. have the player break down the throwing movement and just let her practice it every time you have training. They say you have to do a skill for 21 days to make it a habit

this way hurts but it works: throw next to a fence so if you were right handed your right side would be next to the fence then throw over the top so if you throw side arm you will scrape your nuckles on the fence thats how i learned and you get it quick!

My kids are using ThrowMax. It helps with proper arm positioning. You can get it at Softball Tools => http://www.softballtools.com/ThrowMAX-Softball-Throwing-Aid-p/throxmaxsoftballthrowingaid.htm
